VUmc Kinderstad is een speelstad van twee verdiepingen boven op VU medisch centrum in Amsterdam, pal naast de nieuwe kinderkliniek.
In VUmc Kinderstad kunnen zieke kinderen spelen en zich ontspannen; even vergeten dat ze ziek zijn. Dit bevordert hun herstel. Daarnaast is het van groot belang dat kinderen zich op intellectueel en psychosociaal vlak kunnen ontwikkelen terwijl ze voor lange tijd in het ziekenhuis liggen. Kinderstad helpt daarbij en laat kinderen vooral even kind zijn. Op twee etages kunnen ze onder meer lekker bouwen, knutselen, lezen en voetballen. Maar ook radio en filmpjes maken in een studio, racen in een stoere raceauto en piloot of stewardess spelen in een levensecht vliegtuig.
Kinderstad is niet alleen voor zieke kinderen. Ook hun ouders, broertjes,zusjes, vriendjes en vriendinnetjes kunnen er voor enkele uren verblijven. Voor ouders is er een Huiskamer, een rustige plek waar ze een krantje kunnen lezen en een kopje koffie kunnen drinken.
Voor de exploitatie ontvangt Kinderstad geen subsidies en is derhalve volledig afhankelijk van giften, donaties en sponsoring van particulieren, het bedrijfsleven, scholen, stichtingen etc.
