The captivity of Dolphins in marine parks is controversial. Recent legislative initiatives, particularly in France, but more generally in developed countries, are forcing marine parks to adopt increasingly stronger measures to preserve the welfare of animals. In addition, many activists organize and campaign to see the marine parks permanently closed. It is therefore likely that these will reduce-or stop, even gradually-their activities in the coming years.
But to date, there is no solution to ensure the survival of marine mammals if the parks that host them are closed.
The vast majority of Dolphins under human care in Europe were born in captivity - and they have never been able to acquire the vital behaviors to cope with the many dangers that the open sea presents: predators, pollution, intensive fishing, diseases ...
This is why W Reef aims to develop a protected Dolphins Rejuvenation Center, in which Dolphins could be monitored by a caretaker team while renewing contact with their new environment and all natural stimulus present in the sea.
