Wassu-UAB Foundation (WF) is an academic organization of international scope, working for the management and prevention of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) through anthropological and medical research, applied to knowledge transfer. Born from the will to contribute to build up a world more equal of rights, Wassu-UAB Foundation proposes a pioneer, innovative and sustainable methodology.
As a fundamental contribution, WF hosts the Transnational Observatory of Applied Research to New Strategies for the Prevention of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting, with two research and training centres: in Spain, the Interdisciplinary Group for the Prevention and Study of Harmful Traditional Practices at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology in the UAB; in The Gambia, Wassu Gambia Kafo, a local nongovernmental organisation (NGO) that promotes development and cooperation between the Republic of The Gambia and Spain in the fields of health, research and education.
La Fundación Wassu-UAB (FW) es una organización científica de ámbito internacional, que actúa para la prevención de la Mutilación Genital Femenina (MGF) a través de la investigación antropológica y médica, aplicada a la transferencia de conocimiento. Nacida del compromiso de contribuir a la creación de un mundo en igualdad de derechos, la Fundación Wassu-UAB propone una metodología pionera, innovadora y sostenible.
Como contribución fundamental, FW alberga el Observatorio Transnacional de Investigación Aplicada a Nuevas Estrategias para la Prevención de la MGF, con dos centros de investigación y formación: en España, el Grupo Interdisciplinar para la Prevención y el Estudio de las Prácticas Tradicionales Perjudiciales (GIPE/PTP) del Departamento de Antropología Social y Cultural de la UAB; en Gambia, Wassu Gambia Kafo (WGK), ONG local que promueve la cooperación al desarrollo entre Gambia y España en las áreas de la salud, la investigación y la educación.
