We are a team of two young mechanical engineers aiming to tackle the waste crisis plaguing our country-Lebanon. Our initiative started as an idea in 2019 after years of watching Lebanon struggling from poor waste management. Currently, our project is progressing towards a real and effective solution. The main focus of our work is the treatment of organic waste, which constitutes 53% of the total waste production in Lebanon. Instead of random disposal of these wastes, organic waste can be used to produce liquid wastewater and biomass briquettes, both of which have promising waste-to-energy applications. To do so, we designed and optimized a unique machine that is capable of processing these wastes directly from the source with no pre-treatment necessary. Biomass briquettes can be used for several applications, most notably as a replacement for charcoal and wood. Liquid wastewater will be collected in suitable containers that will be shipped as raw material for anaerobic digestion, which can be used for the generation of electricity. Moving forward, greener and smarter solutions are becoming a necessity. Seeing our project applied at the Municipal level and contributing to both waste management and energy, two of the major ordeals our country is struggling with, is what gives us motivation and strong will to push this project forward.
