3D Audio the next step for the progression of narrative content - we are focused on film and television. We are bringing together the separate elements of 3DAudio needed to tell a unified story. There are obvious pitfalls, primarily using 3D Audio as a gimmick. It must be used to inform the story, not to show ‘how cool’ 3D Audio has become. We are considering a few essential techniques: Live capture of dialogue, in scene music, and any atmosphere sounds. All captured separately, so when mixed, the sonic experience guides the audience to listen to what we want them to hear. Similarly to the way directors now guide the eye by pointing the camera. A virtual production process to add the score and any other effect necessary to tell the story. Teaching the audience the difference between the score and the rest of the sound is the challenge. We don’t have it all figured out, but we are excited to be on this path and can’t wait for the first piece of content that uses these techniques to tell a story.
