Die Wirtschaftspolitische Akademie ist ein privater und unabhängiger Verein, der 2007 von einer Gruppe kritischer WirtschaftsstudentInnen mit dem Ziel gegründet wurde, ein Netzwerk zu bilden, das Wirtschaft ganzheitlich betrachtet und hinterfragt.
Aufgrund des Erfolges des ersten Jahrgangs wurden seitdem jährlich – jeweils im September – neue Jahrgänge ins Leben gerufen. Heute richtet sich die Wirtschaftspolitische Akademie an engagierte Studierende, die über den Tellerrand der engen universitären Lehre hinausblicken und an einem kritischen Diskurs interessiert sind. Der Zertifizierungslehrgang, an dem jährlich ca. 100 TeilnehmerInnen in Österreich partizipieren, spannt sich über die Dauer von einem Jahr und kann an den Standorten Wien und Graz absolviert werden.
Während dieses Zeitraums werden wirtschafts- und sozialpolitische Themen diskutiert und interdisziplinär erarbeitet. Das Programm wird durch die Jahrgangsleitung, bestehend aus ehemaligen TeilnehmerInnen, selbst organisiert und koordiniert.
