Das WITg wurde am 1. April 2002 auf Initiative der Kantonsregierung Thurgau gegründet. Getragen wird das Institut durch die Thurgauische Stiftung für Wissenschaft und Forschung sowie von der Hochschule Konstanz.
Unser Anspruch
Das WITg ist Partner bei der Durchführung von anwendungsorientierten Forschungsprojekten, bei Schadensanalysen und bei Beratungen in werkstoffkundlichen Fragen. Insbesondere klein- und mittelständische Unternehmen aus allen Industriesparten finden bei Fragestellungen bezüglich Produkt- und Verfahrensentwicklung bzw. -anwendung Unterstützung.
Unter dem Begriff Werkstoffsystemtechnik sind alle Fragen, die sich mit Werkstoffen beschäftigen, zusammengefasst, insbesondere auch die Interaktion zwischen Werkstoffen und dem umgebenden Medium. Für die Begleitung und Lösung von Fragestellungen in der industriellen Praxis ist es aus heutiger Sicht erforderlich, Fertigungsprozesse und Verfahren als System zu begreifen und zu analysieren. Diese Systembetrachtung wird im WITg durch eine enge interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit praktiziert. Ein hohes Mass an Flexibilität des Institutes und seiner Aktivitäten ermöglicht eine erfolgreiche Durchführung von innovativen Projekten.
Unsere Vision und Kompetenz
Der Tätigkeitsschwerpunkt des WITg ist die anwendungsorientierte Forschung. Neben der reinen Materialprüfung, die einen eher geringen Anteil an der Gesamttätigkeit ausmacht, stehen die Ingenieurleistung und die langfristig angelegte, anwendungsorientierte Forschung in Form von Forschungsprojekten im Zentrum. Die Kernkompetenzen des WITg liegen in folgenden Bereichen:
