Welcome to Working Through It, we are a community-driven platform dedicated to changing how we respond to domestic abuse in the workplace.
Our mission is to empower companies and employees with the awareness and confidence to talk about the signs and symptoms of domestic violence and to act with empathy, clarity and purpose.
The effects of domestic abuse don't end when the workday begins. It walks with victims and survivors into offices, video calls, and staff meetings. Many try to hide it.
We believe employers, line managers and colleagues have a crucial role to play. Whether it’s recognising the red flags, knowing how to offer support, or ensuring internal policies don’t unintentionally harm those suffering, workplaces can be both a safety net and a lifeline.
Most organisations offer mandatory training on sexual harassment, anti-bribery or data protection but not on how to support an employee experiencing domestic abuse. One of our core goals is to change this. Responding to abuse should be treated with the same urgency, clarity and structure as any other workplace risk.
This page exists to:
- Raise awareness of how domestic abuse shows up at work
- Share practical tools, stories and lived experience
- Challenge outdated HR processes and cultural silence
- Advocate for national policy reform that protects survivors
We’re also committed to lobbying government to remove harmful legal barriers to improving lives for survivors.
The more openly domestic abuse is spoken about in society, the more we will dismantle the shame and stigma that so often silence victims. Awareness is the first step, then we will drive action.
