Aktuell fehlt es an der erfolgreichen Umsetzung von XaaS-Konzepten in der betrieblichen Praxis im Maschinen- und Anlagenbau. Vier Forschungsinitiativen haben das Ziel, Leutturmprojekte für Everything-as-a-Service-Dienste aufzubauen.
Das Ziel ist ein durchgängiges XaaS-Konzept in Form von End-to-End-Prozessen in der Produktion umzusetzen. Das bedeutet, dass alle Prozesse in einzelne Dienste zerlegt und in Form von XaaS-Diensten abgebildet werden.
In jeder Initiative entwickeln verschiedene Partner digitale Services für den Maschinen- und Anlagenbau, betreiben sie wirtschaftlich und transferieren die Erkenntnisse in andere Branchen. Alle Services sollen möglichst mithilfe von Open Source Software entwickelt werden, damit sie der Allgemeinheit zugänglich gemacht und in einer Community weiterentwickelt werden können.
