York Stage is a York-based theatre company comprised of both local and professional performers and production staff. Our sister company York Stage School exists to develop confidence and technique in performers of all ages and abilities. Specialising in Acting, Singing, Musical Theatre and Dance. The school is taught by fully trained industry professionals, lead by Principal Nik Briggs. York Stage has gained a reputation for producing high-quality musicals and plays across theatres and performance spaces around York, bringing many hit shows to the City for the first time. The aim of York Stage is to produce the best theatre in the region using talent primarily sourced locally. York Stage welcomes performers of all ages and prides itself on facilitating new talent through a varied choice of show and working with an experienced creative team. It is thrilled to see many of its performers go on to study performing arts vocationally. York Stage was formed in 2005 following a merger between Shipton Theatre Company and Rowntree Youth Theatre. In 2014, Nik Briggs took over as Artistic Director of York Stage. The company has since built up the reputation for producing top notch Musical Theatre and has been invited to produce many of the latest West End and Broadway hits by the rights holders. Playing to packed out houses throughout York, showcasing some of the best local talent in the area.
