Young Well Beings is a resource developed by and for young mothers to support their mental health and wellbeing during their perinatal journey. Young Well Beings is supported by funding from the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care under the Perinatal and Mental Health and Wellbeing program, and is managed by the School of Health Sciences at Western Sydney University with the support of Western Sydney Local Health District Mental Health Service and a number of partner organisations.
Young Well Beings has been developed as a short online, interactive and self-paced course for young mothers to help them build on what the already know about: 1) How to look after themselves; 2) How to stay well; 3) How to stay mentally healthy; 4) How to build their confidence; 5) How to grow their support networks (people in the community who can help); 6) Where to find professional help; and 7) How to build resilience and strength to counter myths and stereotypes they may face as a young mother.
Young Well Beings is mainly for young mums. People who work with or support young mums, like health professionals and community-based organisations, may also benefit from completing the course.
When young mums finish the course, they’ll get a Certificate of Completion that they can use to show others that they have completed a mental health literacy course endorsed by Western Sydney University and a number of local, state and national mental health organisations.
The course is totally free, with no hidden costs. Young mums (and health professionals) can access it for 12 months and after that time, they can simply re-enrol into the course if they want to access it again.
