“Zero Waste MENA” is a regional initiative whose primary goal is to facilitate and enable the elimination of waste in the Middle East and North Africa Region (MENA) and accelerate our transition to a circular economy.
We aim to achieve this goal through maintaining excellent communication and engagement with our relevant stakeholders in order to inspire behavioural change within our audience, as well as by way of our technical expertise in areas such as environmental analysis, research, policy & governance, evaluation and feasibility study and market development.
ZW MENA Principles:
We will promote sustainable waste management and achieve a zero waste MENA by upholding the following concepts:
• The efficient management of all resources.
• The design of all waste management strategies in line with the waste hierarchy; Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover, considering disposal only as a last resort.
• The emphasis on market development in stimulating the creation of infrastructure from reused material and recycled products.
• The effective involvement and cooperation of all stakeholders (i.e local government, public sector, policy makers and members of the public) which constitutes a vital key to success in any zero waste plan.
• The promotion of sustainable consumption though the encouragement of behavioural change and the redefinition of everyday concepts such as cleanliness, comfort and convenience.
• The increase in community awareness of the social and economic gains of regarding waste as a resource.
• The collaboration with other zero waste initiatives worldwide which will allow for all parties to access and share relevant information to support each other’s work.
• The treating of waste as a resource in itself.
