Businesses in Ørland municipality is experiencing growth. In 2012 Norway's parliament decided to build Norway's main fighter jet base in Ørland. In the next few years several billion Norwegian crowns will be invested. This provides unique opportunities for the municipality. A rich history is evident with the the magnificent Austrått manor (castle) dating from the 16th century. A coastal fortification built by the German occupying forces during WW-II, Uthaug manor and museum of wartime artifacts are other attractions that draw tourists to Ørland.
Ørland Cultural Center, with it's beautiful slate siding, is an attraction in itself. It houses a library, cultural school, movie theater, galleries, and a wetlands center.
Communications to and from Ørland are convenient. One hour plane ride to Oslo. One hour boat ride to Trondheim.
