My job is to listen and learn. From those who are there, doing the work, day to day, thinking "I have the perfect answer for this problem." With that understanding and my experience, I can create an environment that helps identify, develop, and sustain teams that create some of the world's most amazing software products. It isn't my job to make software that just accomplishes the task, it is my job to make software that blows our customers and partners away.I've spent my career contemplating everything from operating system design to fully modeled virtual worlds to essential questions about data, but it always comes back to one fundamental thing: are we building software experiences that make our users' lives better and easier? To me, that is the reward behind everything I do.From before the dawn of the Internet, before cell phones, all the way back to the era of the IBM PC and the Apple II, I have been fascinated by the transformative power of technology. I have seen ideas in tech come and go, some ahead of their time, some short fads that created even better ideas, some that just weren't meant to be. Through all of this, I have become attuned to what makes technology beneficial to individuals and society. Being able to successfully choose which technologies to embrace and invest in is an important aspect of my work. Then, being able to design and assemble systems that use that technology to its utmost becomes critical. But none of that would be sustainable if I wasn't then also able to bring my vision to disparate teams; select, lead, and mentor others to help enact the vision; and, ultimately, deliver meaningful value to those who choose to use what we create.
