Over the past four years I have been learning the basic principles and skills that are necessary in the Interior Design field, along with everything that entails becoming a designer. I feel during this time I have developed many skills which include creativity, organization, responsibility, reliability, positivity and time management. My creativity flourishes as I create spaces that are functional, safe and visually appealing by staying within space requirements and enhancing furnishings, colours, lighting and materials. When creating spaces I configure the space to adapt to the needs, users and accessibility requirements. Over the past three years at Humber College I have been able to draw, read and edit floor plans along with technical drawings and components to make the space come to life. My communication skills are useful when meeting with clients to discuss their ideas, and being able to communicate back and forth to ensure that the project is leading in the correct direction. A big part is also being able to actively listen to the client, to see what they would like to use the space for, what they want to have in the space and to determine their vision for the space. Being creative is a great asset of mine as I am able to envision what an empty room has the potential to become with space planning. I excel at furniture arrangements, space planning and spatial awareness. I love to brainstorm, collaborate with others and play with different styles and trends. I am open-minded, innovative and love the use of different colours and textures when it comes to finishing a space. I have a good use of flexibility especially when it comes to scheduling, delegation, managing expectations, being goal-oriented and trustworthy. As projects come and go it is important to remember that as a designer, I am also a problem solver. With that being said, as unexpected delays can lead to unexpected expenses, it is important to stay on top of all that and problem solve when it is possible to do so. Lastly, as technology is forever changing in this industry, through Humber College and my own personal time, I have been able to learn softwares that will become useful tools in order for me to be successful in the field and to help me present my work. I am always learning, and growing as my passion still remains within the industry and I hope to gain new experiences and stay inspired.
