As a first-generation college graduate, coming from an immigrant family has greatly influenced the way I interact in this world. Going into college I was eager to continue the educational successes I had experienced in high school but was unprepared for the isolation from my community. Within 2 years of my family supporting me as much as they could while I worked 1-2 jobs to remain in college, I was on the verge of failing out and unable to afford the costs. Failure was my ultimate fear at the time but it unless it happened this way, I would not have had the greatest experiences once I transferred to Whatcom Community College. Living in Bellingham allowed me to be more open to new experiences, and challenges, and I was more than ever determined to graduate. Perseverance was key for me as I finally graduated from the CC and WWU after 5 years in Bellingham. As a compassionate, determined, and resourceful person I moved towards community work that would intersect with my business interests. Over the years I was able to travel to several states to speak at national conferences, attend study abroad in China, & plan several large-scale events that served my community. I describe myself as a community-driven marketer because marketing is not just a function of business, it can be a tool to serve marginalized communities and minimize hurdles from language barriers to other injustices. Currently, I'm a small business owner who is ready for new opportunities with local companies. For the past year & a half, I managed the shop, established vendor relations, remained profitable, & created content for our social media. I am also a passionate reader, artists, and gamer who loves to hang out with her 11 nieces and nephews.
