The first involved designing a safe and affordable ferry for India's Brahmaputra River. Our second endeavor focused on developing a fully electric ferry for the Philippines's Pasig River. During a productive six-month period, I undertook two distinct projects. Here are the details:Metal Plate Stacking Optimization:In this project, I tackled the challenge of improper handling and stacking of metal plates, a crucial component in marine vessel construction. Due to misplacement in the Light Steel Fabrication Shop (LSF), valuable time was wasted as the plates couldn't be located when needed, resulting in delays and additional work in the Ship Building Hall (SBH). To address this issue, I proposed implementing a bar-code system on each plate and introduced an inventory management system. This solution streamlined the process, enabling efficient tracking and retrieval of plates, saving valuable time and reducing man-hours.Welding Research and Improvement:For this task, I conducted comprehensive research on the challenges faced by welders during their work. Through direct engagement with welders, I identified key issues such as safety concerns, inadequate equipment (e.g., face masks and grinder protection helmets), and difficulties associated with toxic gas exposure in confined spaces. Armed with these insights, I initiated measures to enhance safety protocols, provided proper protective gear to the welders, and explored improved ventilation systems to mitigate the risks associated with toxic gases. These initiatives not only ensured a safer working environment but also enhanced the overall efficiency of welding operations.By addressing these unique challenges head-on and implementing effective solutions, I contributed to optimizing the workflow, improving productivity, and fostering a safer work environment for the team involved in marine vessel construction.
