  My main role was to aid the development of Ivy's code base as a programmer, like fixing the existing failing tests and broken features, implementing new functions and reviewing pull requests submitted by external contributors. I also periodically respond to external email messages and answer questions on Ivy’s discord channels. I have worked on two significant projects. Firstly, updating the test modules and their corresponding documentations after I found that the old version can’t process custom default values defined in certain ML frameworks. Secondly, researching and experimenting various tools and methods to reduce the size of .git package for Ivy’s repository without losing valuable data. The main technology I used was GitHub and Python. The most noteworthy task I accomplished was the individual task of making Ivy compatible with special values that only appear in one module of a ML framework and are usually used as default values or placeholders of input arguments. For example, Ivy’s hypothesis tests thoroughly check all possible inputs for optional arguments by feeding Nulls, though those functions do not treat Nulls as “no input” and raise errors like “can’t sample from None”. During the process of solving the task, I communicated with other senior members of the company to learnt their logic when they write the test functions and asked for their advice on where and how to deploy my patch so that it covers the most scenarios and reduce repeating efforts in the future.
