Zayd Khan is a CS @ UIUC | Research Intern @ Brookhaven National Laboratory at Project: Code. He is proficient in Spanish. Colleagues describe him as "I had the pleasure of working with Zayd through Brookhaven National Laboratory's Community College Internship (CCI) program during the summer of 2024. At the time of writing this, Zayd is only halfway through his college studies, but he has proven to be skilled well beyond his years. He is not only an exceptional software engineer, with a particular talent for machine learning, he is entirely unfazed when facing daunting technical and research tasks, which to me showcases a rare resilience that will make him an asset to his colleagues and managers regardless of his choice of career. His performance during his CCI internship was particularly impressive due to the uniquely challenging nature of the problem, which involved complicated overlap between physics, cheminformatics and machine learning. Ultimately, I can count on him to get the job done. It is also worth noting that he routinely goes beyond the call of duty, and took on a mentorship role himself for other, younger students during his own internship, playing an instrumental part in their experience and intellectual development at Brookhaven. In summary, Zayd is outlier in the best possible way. He is both highly technically skilled and demonstrates all the qualities any manager would want to see in a future leader.
