Operational Policing - London

Leading a staff of over 70, I hold responsibility for the immediate response to critical incidents and the management of a wide range of operational activities across a busy London borough. Conducting substantial risk assessments, I ensure appropriate prioritisation, response and resourcing; processing information quickly and accurately to manage a diversity of issues effectively in fast time. I exercise a significant depth of knowledge around criminal law, disclosure requirements and investigation techniques to ensure exceptional service delivery. I oversee prisoner management, utilising exceptional decision making and resourcing ability, I drive strict adherence to all legal compliance to meet exacting time requirements. I also serve as a specialist operations manager, a role normally undertaken at the higher rank of inspector. As sole decision maker across a large geographical area, I have implemented resilient working practices between teams to ensure effective handovers; bringing clarity to working practices and clear processes to maintain a chain of responsibility and accountability. My initiatives have secured a reduction in open cases, increased community satisfaction and been recognised as best practice. I have seven years continued training in public order tactics and legal application. I have been deployed, and lead teams, at numerous events. I also serve as a public order loggist; providing official recording throughout public order incidents to support the most senior decision making.

Safer Neighbourhoods

Managing a large team, I led the effective response to areas of greatest concern to the local neighbourhood. I chaired meetings and worked proactively across the community, building and maintaining resilient relationships with a range of key partners. My engagement strategy saw my team gain the highest increase in followers in 2018 on safer neighbourhood team social media platforms. I developed and implemented operations to combat offending; delivering resolution of anti-social behaviour and driving innovative initiatives to address emerging crime patterns. I managed both serious and lower level volume crime, working to mitigate gang activity, youth violence and drug offending. I managed these complex problems with limited resources and through determined partnership working. I proactively committed to staff development, supporting both personal and professional skill progression to best serve colleagues and the community. During this time, I planned, delivered and secured funding for a large, complex, multi-partner anti-social behaviour operation. This operation proved to be exceptionally successful and was recognised through a Met Excellence Award for leadership and best team.

Pan London Proactive Team

Selected to lead a team in intelligence led patrols; I planned the deployment of officers to most effectively mitigate and prevent criminal offending. Utilising crime data analysis patterns to build intelligence profiles and compiling detailed handovers to support proactive operations. I successfully identified emerging crime patterns and implemented effective responses contributing to a 200% reduction in one of the main target areas of moped enabled crime.

Town Centre Team

Tasked to reduce volume crime throughout a busy town centre, I worked in close partnership with local business and services to develop productive intelligence sharing. My role included the scene management of live events and serving as the World Cup licensing lead. Supporting an overhaul of the Pub Watch initiative, I promoted effective communication between a range of venues freeing police resources for core responsibilities and increasing business engagement.

Met Change

I was selected to work as a consultant with Deloitte’s within a major project driving significant organisational change in structure and service delivery. I reinvigorated a failing project, identifying areas for improvement, rapidly delivering the desired result. Working within a senior development team, I navigated significant challenges; gaining support for changes to service delivery at police station front counters across the MPS. This entailed closures and redesign of working environments through reviewing demand, processes and regulations. Working with internal and external partners, I produced updates and presentations and responded to public and internal questions and scrutiny. All targets were achieved with learning shared in recognition of the success of this project.

Olympic Preparation

I was tasked as an operation planner and manager with focus on the mitigation of street crime in Westminster. I researched and presented a tactical review for consideration for both short and long term results. I pursued innovative approaches to crime prevention including the first application mobile fingerprinting and cross boundary resourcing. On securing 1,400 extra officers, I led on logistical deployment, resourcing and direction. This operation secured arrests using with new technology and a 300% reduction in street offences; the highest reduction seen in priority crime.
