Sr. Director Of Public Affairs And Chief Financial Officer
CurrentIt was while serving on one of WFPA’s committees – for the new public information program – that I was asked to assume leadership responsibility by the Board of Trustees for all strategic communication efforts. Though I moved from a financial role, my accounting experience prepared me for managing and leveraging efficiencies in this area’s budget. My role continued to develop, and I was later promoted to Senior Director of Public Affairs. This position has involved serving as a key contributor to the organization’s strategy, while concurrently leading the globally-recognized public information program. Through this program, the WFPA maintains its social license by educating Washington residents on the value private landowners bring to the state.Understanding what drives people has been vital to my success in public affairs. Whether supervising a team of contractors, building relationships with business and government leaders, or serving our members, I always make every effort to make people feel heard.Though naturally focused on Washington state, my role with the WFPA has taken me outside the U.S. As just one example, I shared its history and model with an audience in Chile. I explained how the association has been able to align its strategy with shifting public values as they evolve over the years.
