Integrated Offender Management

Managing a team of 23 officers and working in a multi-agency setting, I oversee the supervision of serious organised crime group members and violent and prolific acquisitive crime offenders who have been released from prison on licence. I drive engagement with these high risk offenders in the community, seeking to rehabilitate persistent offenders and minimise the drivers for offending.I work in close liaison with partners including probation services, drug treatment and homeless services to identify individuals who would gain the most benefit from intervention activity. I seek to consistently drive progress, introducing new and innovative approaches to offending reduction.

Hostage And Crisis Negotiator

In addition to my current role, as a trained crisis negotiator, I serve on an on-call basis responding to threat to life incidents ranging from suicide intervention to armed crimes in action.

Firearms Licensing

Leading a team, I was responsible for the management of shotgun and firearm certificate renewals and applications across Nottinghamshire. I investigated potential breaches of firearms licensing legislation: holding responsibility for decision making regarding the revocation of licences. Managing a large caseload, supervising over 10,000 licence holders, I developed a productive team with a positive reputation within the shooting fraternity of Nottinghamshire.Conducting investigations to test safety and the suitability of applicants, I led the granting, variation or renewal of firearm, shotgun, and explosives certificates, ensuring absolute compliance with all legislative demands. I managed the inspection of registered firearms dealers and shooting clubs, providing advice and ensuring all legal requirements were met. Utilising effective communication skills and my depth of knowledge, I built resilient relationships with applicants, clubs and certificate holders, remaining helpful but impartial to deliver robust and effective decision making.

Armed Surveillance Team

Selected to join this specialist unit, I was engaged in the proactive targeting of organised crime groups; using surveillance tactics and techniques to secure intelligence and mitigate serious offending. This role required exceptional commitment, working demanding hours and managing pressured environments to secure the overarching aim of robust management of complex risk. Leading teams, I drove the covert gathering and dissemination of information around serious and organised crime. Working across a wide range of investigations, I managed information security, confidentiality and integrity within strict legislative and regulatory frameworks. I investigated varied offending and provided support to numerous units throughout Nottinghamshire, including counter terrorism teams and homicide and gang investigation units.

Operational Policing

Response Policing - Leading a team, I ensured calls for police action were responded to promptly and that resources were properly directed. I delivered operational requirements and managed the professional development, discipline and welfare needs of my team. I developed intelligence driven tasking, supervising investigations and identifying lines of enquiry to secure positive results.Custody - I supervised the reception, detention, release and overall care of individuals brought into a large custody suite, responsible for often the most vulnerable in society. Within this challenging role required, I demonstrated the ability to think calmly in high tension environments whilst remaining cognisant of exacting legal and moral demands. I worked effectively with lay visitors, promoting understanding of police actions and resolving concerns at the earliest opportunity.

Force Support Team

Selected to join this armed tactical unit, I supported strategic operations and responded to spontaneous firearms incidents and public order events and the execution of elevated risk warrants. I consistently demonstrated a measured approach to manage heightened situations, ensuring best safety practice and full adherence to all compliance requirements.

Divisional Support Unit

Serving in a divisional setting, I provided support in a range of areas from fast time reaction to public order through to specialist searches and high risk operations. The need for an adaptable attitude, the ability to thrive under pressure and a broad spectrum of skills were essential. I conducted a variety of specialist operations from surveillance to football policing.

Operational Policing

I built a strong foundation of enquiry, observation and personal interaction, providing immediate response to critical incidents and operational activities. I brought a considered approach to my work; processing information quickly and accurately, exercising exceptional conflict management skills and demonstrating an ability to connect with people even in the most challenging of circumstances. Managing local concerns, I implemented resilient solutions to community issues and worked in close partnership with local business and services to develop productive and appropriate intelligence sharing. I exercised a personable and diplomatic approach, demonstrating a real interest in local concerns and positive outcomes for the community.
