Founded this store in 2021 after my previous venture (Phonecurry.com) was shut down due to COVID. With an initial investment of ₹5 lacs, the store generated approximately ₹80 lacs in revenue over one year. The store’s look and feel were intentionally kept low-key and ‘affordable’ to resonate with the local community in a rural town, where high-end showroom decor is often perceived as expensive.The goal was to gain insights into the used phones market, an area of interest since 2016 due to the high demand for used phones in rural and semi-urban regions and the pace of growth. The response was exceptional, selling out our entire inventory within a week, driven by a strong local community and the trust established among buyers. Customer experience and service were top priorities, and we sourced phones from verified suppliers like Cashify for peace of mind. However, this approach became unsustainable as Cashify raised prices post-COVID and the product quality declined.This experience revealed critical insights from both merchants and customers, highlighting issues in the used phones market that are currently being overlooked. The store fulfilled its purpose, and I decided to close it to focus on building a large-scale business that addresses real-world challenges for both merchants and users. The next venture will create an accessible, quality supply chain and provide affordability tools for buying and selling used or refurbished phones.Until then, hasta la vista, baby!
