I'm a builder---a creative-project roller-outer, a giddy advocate for exciting causes. This started when I launched my own French to English translation business in 1994, continued as I was asked to help launch Governor Phil Bredesen and Dolly Parton's statewide Imagination Library in 2004, continued as I launched my own voiceover services, led me to Hands On Nashville where I created a citywide educational outreach program for all Nashvillians from Pre-K through retirement...and then took me to work for one of the most essential causes of our time at The Nature Conservancy. It was my great pleasure to have created and managed The Nature Conservancy's Corporate Council for the Environment. I engaged business executives and employees in our work to keep the land green, the water clean, and the natural resources abundant for people, for business, and for nature. In June 2013, with great excitement, I left my beloved Nature Conservancy to accept the role of CEO/Chief Funding Officer at Nashville Education, Community, and Arts Television. This was a time of major transition for NECAT, moving from a 35-year period where all their expenses were covered through Comcast money funneled through Nashville Metro Government---to a time where henceforth such monies are restricted to capital expenditures due to a change in Federal Law. It was my task to design and launch a fundraising plan to bridge this gap and cover operational expenses for NECAT. I love a good puzzle---and I'm proud to say I did indeed do that, bringing income from corporate and foundation sponsors, individual gifts, events, and increasing our membership five-fold.Six years after my hire, I am thrilled to say that NECAT was much more representative of the voices of our community, from teens to producers in their 80s. On July 22, 2019 I took my skills and experience to the beautiful Frist Art Museum as Assistant to our very inspiring Director Susan Edwards who retired three years later. Being at her elbow to learn the inner magic of museums was a true gift. I love my vibrant relationship with everyone on this dynamic team of 65+ coworkers, 25+ trustees, and countless guests and I have been excitedly supporting our new Director Seth Feman since 2022 as our service to the community continues and grows.

Replaced redirected Ops funding with all new corporate, foundation, individual, event, and class revenue sources. Doubled our Ops budget to increase programming and pay staff appropriately.Created and secured funding for the NECAT staff-and-Metro-Nashville-Public-School-student-produced TV series Our Nashville, creating 60 evergreen episodes still airing today to inform viewers in 19 middle Tennessee counties of the life-changing services and opportunities provided by our nonprofit community.Increased the number of NECAT producer and technician members five-fold between 2013 and 2019. Formed official partnerships with 6 Metro public schools and trained 500+ Metro broadcast career pathway students 2014-2019, during the school day for school credit.Related Honors:Nashville Business Journal: 2018 Trailblazer in the Women of Influence Awards2018 Most Admired CEOCenter for Nonprofit Management, Salute to Excellence Awards:2017 recipient of the Frist Foundation Team Building Award and $25,000 prizeAcademies of Nashville:2017 Districtwide Partnership of the Year AwardPENCIL Foundation:2017 Outstanding Partner Award for NECAT's immersive work with 6 Metro schools.Defined industry best practices, developing a protocol, instruction guide, and producer contracts for Legal Music Use on Public/Education/Government TV Channels, presented at the nationwide PEG TV conference to guide NECAT’s 300+ peer TV stations in the legal use of recordings and performance of cover songs on peer channels.Set aside $1 million in capital funds for a replacement NECAT studio/building. Director Of Corporate And Foundation RelationsThe Nature Conservancy Jan 2009 - Jun 2013Prior to my hire, the Tennessee Chapter had focused virtually all development efforts on individual giving. The majority of donors were older and TNC was not well known by the general public. Leadership took a chance and allowed me to begin a corporate and foundation portfolio from scratch. This was particularly effective financially with international companies whose Tennessee gifts I could match to also fund Nature Conservancy projects in other countries $2 to $1 through the Tennessee International Match Fund. It is thrilling to secure a $75,000 gift for our local work and to be able to tell the corporate donor that because of them, *another* $150,000 will be released from the TIMF to support the Nature Conservancy project they have selected in Brazil where the company also has facilities with hundreds of employees and their families.Raised $400,000 for The Nature Conservancy all in first-time donations from corporations, foundations, and individuals through relationship-building, innovative proposal writing, and cause-related marketing.Managed the partnership with Music City Roots and Bluegrass Underground for educational outreach, member recruitment, corporate funding, and individual donor engagement via weekly live concerts, radio, internet livestream, and television.Created and managed the Corporate Council for the Environment. -

Director Of EducationHands On Nashville Mar 2008 - Aug 2008HON hired me as their first Director of Education to create programming about service to nonprofits, which I did through a program I called Do Good Well. I spent five months developing the eight-month educational programming to help Nashvillians of all ages understand the key roles played by nonprofits in our community. Each month would feature a specific nonprofit in Nashville through live presentations, free on-line materials, and video. Sadly, due to the loss of significant funding (unrelated to the education program), my position was eliminated the day before Do Good Well launched. The educational path was icing on the cake for HON, and icing must understandably go before cake.Hands On Nashville opted to cancel Do Good Well itself a month later. The videos I created with Melissa Cross, volunteer extraordinaire, were used on YouTube for Second Harvest Food Bank, CommunityNashville, Adventure Science Center, The Climate Project, the Nashville Zoo, Cheekwood, and Alive Hospice for some time. They also ran frequently on NECAT's Education channel.Nearly a decade later their concept would inspire my NECAT series called Our Nashville. -
Program DirectorGovernor'S Books From Birth Foundation Jul 2004 - Mar 2008In a tiny team of four hardworking employees, launched Dolly Parton's Imagination Library a statewide program in Tennessee for all 375,000 pre-K children, providing a free, age-appropriate, hardback book every single month from birth until a child's fifth birthday--at no cost to the family and regardless of income.Identified, trained, and supported partner nonprofits in all 95 counties.Created and managed the Governor's League of Extraordinary Teens who each registered at least 10 children in their own county and found creative ways to cover the county's share of the book costs for the children they registered for a year.
