AlconI lead a multidisciplinary Nonclinical Science and Technology Team (NCST) to oversee daily operations and regulatory compliance within the unit while ensuring timely planning, execution, and reporting of nonclinical studies in support of our pipeline. Enhancing our preclinical capabilities through the development of new animal models and other technologies is also in scope. Career Summary:For the past 20+ years, I have followed my passion for biomedical research and development into numerous senior leadership roles with a variety of organizations: Boston University, Pfizer, the National Cancer Institute, Charles River Discovery and Development Services, Baylor College of Medicine, Intuitive Surgical, Laboratory Animal Medicine consultation, and presently Alcon. My specialty lies in comparative medicine and laboratory animal medicine. I have overseen several very large and complex programs. I have led teams, improved their training, and encouraged continuous improvement.Team building, global stakeholder alignment, improving change agility, keeping a sharp eye on audits/regulatory compliance, and emphasis on the fact that "every day is inspection day" is a hallmark of my leadership. In order to maintain the public's trust in our work, we must do our best for both our organization and the welfare of the animals we work with. I've captured excellent audits from AAALAC and the USDA time and time again.EDUCATIONDoctor of Veterinary Medicine, School of Medicine, Tuskegee UniversityBachelor of Science, Agricultural Science, Tuskegee UniversityNational Institutes of Health Postdoctoral Fellowship in Comparative Medicine and Pathology, University of Texas Southwestern Medical CenterLICENSURES AND BOARD CERTIFICATIONS• Diplomate, American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine• Registered, Federal Drug Enforcement Administration• Licensed to Practice: Texas, Oklahoma, California and Nebraska. • USDA Accreditation: TexasTRAINING• Accelerated Implementation Methodology (AIM) Training Certification (2011)• Pfizer Leadership Training (2010)• Strozzi Institute, Leadership in Action (2010)MEMBERSHIPS• American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine• American Veterinary Medical Association• Texas Veterinary Medical Association• Rotary International

Practice Owner L Mount Vernon Veterinary Clinic P. C. L Veterinary ConsultantMount Vernon Veterinary Clinic Pc Sep 2012 - Sep 2016I work with both small and large animals in a clinical setting here. My practice has grown 20% over the past three years, and we have 25-30 new clients joining us every month. I'm now looking to move away from the clinic (handing it over to some very capable leaders) so I can once again pursue my passion of comparative medicine.

Site Head, Executive Director Comparative MedicinePfizer, Inc. Jan 2009 - Aug 2012New York, New York, UsI was headhunted into this role due to my extensive background with comparative medicine and laboratory animal leadership roles. The site consisted of 3 vivaria which comprised 250K square feet of animal holding space. We had 106 employees and 8 program veterinarians.I oversaw compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. I had a shared budget responsibility for the site ($50M) with 10 direct reports. My efforts here helped us capture excellent AAALAC and USDA audits.A few other highlights included:• Bringing a training vendor on site to provide dosing / sampling collection training. I wanted our comparative medicine (CM) staff to provide more technical services right at our site. The research units were very pleased with our work which boosted my staff's morale due to its increased role in the research. We logged more than 1600+ hours each month in this new technical support.• Increasing the CM staff's competency by helping all of them earn some level of the AALAS certification. I drove a culture to "do all you can do and be all that you can be" in support of the company's mission.• Spearheading a massive move of many of our research units, animal colonies, equipment, and more to a new campus site in another state. I stayed on top of communication so things could run smoothly. This was a monumental, but ultimately successful, task. -
Deputy Director, Laboratory Animal Sciences ProgramNational Cancer Institute (Nci) / Science Applications International Corporations (Saic) Sep 2003 - Jan 2009I managed, through reports, 22 animal facilities and 300 staff to aid the NCI investigators in Bethesda and Frederick (Maryland). Between 2006 and 2009 I also held the title of Animal Program Director, NIH. I was a member of several committees that approved animal research and I won an award from the Animal Care and Use Committee, on the Bethesda campus, for program contributions.Additional achievements included:• Prioritizing the automation of our mice importation to NCI-Frederick from other facilities. I led an effort to develop an online process for import/export animals. This improvement reduced processing time, reduced possible mistakes, and created a transparent process that could be monitored by our customers.• Updating, standardizing, and driving compliance of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) across all the facilities. I am a firm believer that solid SOPs are critical to success.• Initiating electronic training records for all staff. This was a major undertaking that resulted in improving quality assurance measures.

Clinical Veterinarian L Director, Laboratory Animal ResourcesCharles River Discovery And Development Services Mar 1999 - Sep 2003I was recruited from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX to Primedica Labs. which was soon purchased by Charles River. I joined the company as a clinical veterinarian and was promoted to director in 10 months. I was the attending veterinarian for the Animal Care and Use Program at Worcester and Southbridge campuses in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act. Both sites consisted of 101K square feet of animal space. We had 60 techs and 3 veterinarians. I consulted with the study directors and pharmaceutical sponsors about study design and conduct, endpoints, and logistics.I had several achievements here, including successful USDA / AAALAC audits, merging the Southbridge and Worcester animal programs, consistently finding new ways to improve throughput and study logistics, and most importantly, improving my staff's morale in a contract testing environment.
