Recruited by the CEO and Founder to be the Interim COO. Responsible for managing, advising and supporting a broad range of activities including: strategy and business planning, venture financing activities, establishing an advisory board, customer project management and support, operations and technology support, organization design, and the management of administration and people systems. The company received Series A funding in 2006. I declined an offer to be the COO. The company was acquired by a large web content management company.

Tulsa, Oklahoma Area

CHOICEPAY - An regional bill payment company and a subsidiary of Tulsa National Bancshares, Inc. The company provides a comprehensive suite of electronic bill presentment and payment (EBPP) services that lowers the total cost of payment processing. Served as the trusted adviser and executive coach to the CEO in the areas of strategy, growth, and execution improvement. Conducted monthly on site strategy assessments, decision support reviews, and CEO coaching sessions to develop a more aggressive revenue strategy. Conducted performance improvement and coaching meetings with senior managers to review and improve organizational performance and managed weekly CEO conference calls to review progress on action plans. Reviewed new business development plans and directed problem resolution actions. Designed and completed an organizational diagnosis and gap analysis, mapped organization design and talent issues and facilitated the company’s off site strategy retreat. ChoicePay was acquired by Tier Technologies.

REMO SECURITY - A Micronets spin-off company and the provider of an open-source security software solution targeting the convergence of physical and logical security. Remo Security marketed advanced solutions and customization services to enable seamless integration between physical, logical, analog, and digital security systems and networks, via the IP communications infrastructure. Served as the strategic adviser and executive coach to the President, organized, and served on the advisory board. Responsible for a broad range of executive consulting activities including: changes and execution support of the business plan, investor financing planning and networking, customer/business development guidance, establishing the advisory board, recruiting key management personnel and oversight of the action plans and deliverables of the Phase I strategy. The rights to Remo Security were acquired as part of an acquisition by an IT company in India.

Springbok Services provided vertically integrated company branded prepaid Mastercard and Visa card solutions. Including program management, card personalization and fulfillment services, and transaction processing, settlement and reconciliation services and support. As COO, I operated across all functions of the company directing strategy, decision making and coaching the Founders and key members of the management team as critical business issues/performance gaps were identified. During 2007, SBS received first round funding from Goldman Sachs, revenues doubled and the company grew from 20+ people to a 100.

As COO, managed an early stage company engaged in the planning and production of a horse racing television network and the delivery of interactive gaming services via cable, satellite, PC, and IVR systems. TVG was acquired by TV Guide after 15 months of intensive development. Post sale, continued as the COO in a variety of hands on management roles occasioned by ownership change and shifting corporate priorities. Operated as the organization architect directing the evolution of TVG’s high performance culture, improving performance, accountability and financial results. TVG was acquired by a UK gaming company in 2007.

Austin, Texas Area

Recruited as COO to execute performance improvements in a $25+ million Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) company. We automated 1.5 million food stamp customers onto a debit card platform through a network of 25 - 30 thousand POS terminals. Managed the broad range of day-to-day P&L responsibilities with a staff of 300+ in three states. Hands on management of software engineering teams in three states to accelerate performance and quality improvements. Accelerated stalled automation projects in the Fl Call Center (100+ seats) improving the quality, timeliness and customer service performance. Also, managed the State Parks and Wildlife Agency contract. We automated hunting and fishing licenses onto a point-of-sale (POS) platform with hand held verification terminals for the Game Wardens. The Governor helped launch our program when he used our POS system to buy his hunting and fishing licenses. Transactive was sold in 1999.

Baltimore, Maryland Area

Recruited as COO during divestiture to manage the day-to-day operations of a $40 million GTECH subsidiary involved in providing computer technology and facilities management services to the gaming industry. Responsible for a staff of 400 (over half were union), a technology manufacturing division and an Australian subsidiary. Worked closely with the CEO, senior managers and parent company executives to execute an aggressive plan to sell the company. Results included a successful sale on schedule in 1996, an effective organization, and an offer to become the COO of Transactive.

Washington D.C. Metro Area

Recruited as the VP and DARPA Program Manager. I managed the broad range of day-to-day P&L responsibilities of a multimillion-dollar (prime contractor) MIS contract for the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA). The contract required the delivery of systems integration and technical support services and provided financial software development, network management, software and hardware labs, product evaluation, procurement, and help desk services. The company was performing poorly and the MIS Group was dissatisfied with overall contract performance. Within in two years, we became a trusted partner by improving the quality and timeliness of services to the customer. This resulted in new business that doubled the value of the contract and moved the company to a positive cash flow position. Excellent performance resulted in a job offer to join the DARPA MIS team.
