I began my second job out of college as the CEO of a small company. With 6 employees we grew from 9M in sales to $110 million in sales, a 50% average annual growth rate, in 7 years. Through this period, I built relationships with the owners of several competing local real estate companies to whom I sold the company. To do so required negotiations requiring that each be walked through the change management process.In the same year a mortgage entity was founded which 7 years later was a mortgage bank securitizing both wholesale and retail loans from 26 states. 4 years hence the mortgage bank was bifurcated and successfully sold as two entities. To solve the HR personnel and corporate issues required significant problem solving to successfully implement of change management plans.Subsequently I was recruited to build a startup investor funded student loan company. This role necessitated strategic leadership as my responsibilities encompassed those of Chief Operating Officer, Chief Marketing Officer, and Vice President of Sales. To fulfill these responsibilities, I had to successfully build and manage both internal and external relationships. The company, 5 years later, originated over $1.2B of student loans per annum and was successfully sold to Lehman Brothers.Afterword, I was the 3rd hire of a startup student loan company called on my business building, re-engineering, and problem-solving abilities to handle the change management leading to the Board mandated financial success. This required considerable relationship building such that each trusted other team members. The re-engineering was 2 quarters of internal negotiations in our problem-solving endeavors leading to the needed change management. The payoff was a successful NASDAQ IPO. Learning from my student loan experience I founded and was the CEO of a for-profit entity, while functioning as the Executive Director of a non-for-profit entity each teaching families how to experience a successful migration of their children from secondary to post-secondary education. Our products were white labeled PC and mobile accessible websites built for financial planning entities and accountants. After 10 years of double-digit annual growth the company was acquired by a national broker dealer.Finally, I became the CEO and Executive Consultant of a consulting firm which required all my skills of Strategic Leadership, subsets of which have been, relationship building, negotiation, problem solving and change management. While highly lucrative and quite enjoyable it has come time to make a change.
