Ms. Gathers served ten years in jail on a manslaughter conviction on the sole basis of a confession obtained by controversial former N.Y.P.D. Detective Louis Scarcella.Successfully negotiated with the City of New York a multi-million-dollar pre-litigation settlement of client’s federal civil rights and state tort law claims; andLitigated a parallel unjust imprisonment and conviction claim against the State of New York pursuant to section 8-b of the New York State Court of Claims Act and achieved a seven-figure settlement pretrial.The Firm's scope was expanded in mid-May 2018 to include criminal defense work and civil litigation, including the representation of individuals in federal criminal and regulatory investigations.
