Having spent the past 4+ year’s helping architect and grow the Global Support Engineering and Operations teams at HashiCorp, I’m shifting my role to focus on growing and continuing to build the highly technical team that ensures our customer base is successful using our Vault and Secure product line’s. The current team supports the largest Vault deployments in the world, as well as our Federal, Strategic, and Global 2000 base of customers.

Since becoming Director of Support Engineering, with a focus on our Runtime Products, I've helped grow our Vault, Consul, Nomad, and our Support Ops(Data Science and Intelligence) team. I currently have a team of 3 Support Engineering Managers and 3 Lead Engineers(One for each of the Runtime products). Our team has doubled the load it has handled in the past year without needing to grow in the size of people, using optimizations to lower cost and make sure that our Support team remains a part in driving revenue and not becoming another cost center.

During the second year at HashiCorp, I helped split the team into two organizations, Partition and Runtime. I hired and trained my peer to run the Partition group, while I maintained the Runtime team, which consisted of 3 products: Vault, Consul, and Nomad. Focus remained on scaling the team in order to meet the needs and demands of the global 2000.

Recruited to build the support team from a loose group of individuals reporting to the VP of Engineering, into a scalable organization. During the first year I worked with the existing members of the team to build out processes and methods that aligned with the Tao of HashiCorp. The team expanded from 1 -> 4 Subject Matter Expert focused teams, primarily focused on our main core products.

Over the two year period I helped move the team from an in house support ticketing system to Zendesk, and helped automate most of their support tooling. We managed hundreds of customers with an eight person team, primarily through the use of Toyota Production System methods and pragmatic choices in order to scale the team to meet the demand of the customers, without hiring more people.
