In 2006 we created a basic website portal for the Ski and Snowboard School at Mt Hood Meadows Ski Resort on Mt Hood, Oregon. The purpose of the website was to consolidate the communications between supervisors and instructors. With more than 350 instructors, ranging from part time to full time, the flexibility of the website helped to create timely and effective communications about ski school and resort operations. The diverse and expansive communications needs of a ski and snowboard school with more than 350 instructors were realized, and the website was an immediate success.We realized that there is no need to reinvent the wheel every time you want to build a new website. And that every “individual pro” on the hill ought to have a place to connect and promote their services with their guests. So, now many of the most requested features are available to both snow sports schools, teams, clubs and individual instructors.

Northwest Usa

Assistant Coach (2014-2021), Team Member (2006-present). Members of the the Technical Team are part of the PSIA-NW Divisional Clinic Leaders, many of whom are also alpine examiners. The Team’s primary focus is on continuing its charter to be an effective research and development group for the division. As well, members of the team are considered as being some of the top snowsports professionals in the Northwest, while some aspire to tryout for the PSIA National Team.

Oversee and direct all communications to PSIA-NW members, industry partners and the public at large. Coordinate the annual communications budget for the PSIA-NW organization. Oversee and produce PSIA-NW Northwest Snowsports Instructor professional journal/newsletter as designer, publisher and editor. PSIA-NW.ORG website developer and content manager. Oversight of PSIA-NW softgoods, merchandise and technical book sales.

Popstar Digital provides creative solutions and digital design services across a wide variety of media including web applications, web development, print media, animation, illustration, video, 2D and 3D design among other talents. As the accounts director and project manager I worked with many clients including Kokatat, Chinook Sailing Products, The Teva Mountain Games and others.

Design and Development of web application and websites specializing in usability, interface design and architecture, as well as Print Design for multi-page full-color magazines, catalogs and other marketing materials. Clients including Heelside Snowboard Company, North Kiteboarding, Eternity Ironworks, Gene Dwarkin Photography, Limbo Films and others.

As a web designer at Summit I was involved with user interface design for a variety of web based projects from full e-commerce websites to micro-sties and company intranets for clients including Nike, Camelbak, Swiss Army, and others.

October 1995 – June 2000. Created my own project. Filled a need. Found a niche. Published a mountain bike guidebook for Hood River. Got lost while researching. Was nearly struck by lightening. Wrote another Oregon guidebook. Changed a tire in the dark. Received immediate support from local sponsors. Wrote a budget. Sold some advertising. Hired printers. Wrote a Colorado guidebook. Won a design award for it. Paid my bills on time. Learned a lot. Tried to learn something new everyday.

Hired people. Fired people. Broke up a bar fight. Wrote an $850,000 budget. Profit exceeded budget, expenses were under budget. Ran a 6% labor cost. Won a management award. Made a profit. Poured beer. Made great Spanish Coffees. Wrote a schedule for 45+ employees. Broke sales records. Swung a hammer, flipped burgers or washed windows when needed. Made friends. Was missed when I left.

August 1991 – October 1992. Accepted architect position in Zermatt, Switzerland. Moved 6 days after graduating from college. Learned Swiss-German and Swedish. Improved my French. Won a design contest. Generated a commission because of it. Met interesting people. Occasionally skied to the office or at lunch. Had a Swiss bank account. Drew construction documents the hard way – ink on paper. Learned metric: 2.54 cm/inch. 3.28 ft/m. Visited building sites daily. Identified contractor mistakes. Saved firm money. Designed innovative spaces for a multi-use urban project. Learned a lot about European architecture and culture. Traveled.
