Though my predominant career description has been Flight Test Engineer, I have had the opportunity to work in several others as a mechanical engineer including design, quality, manufacturing, test and evaluation, and research. As a Flight Test Engineer I have managed programs of varying size and scope that involved direct coordination with colleagues based in several locations. One project involved aircraft integration, test, and evaluation of an upgraded propeller pitch control mechanism for the C-130 aircraft. The electro-mechanical control was designed to replace the original hydro-mechanical control and provide reduced MTBF and aircraft down time. Through the course of the developmental test and evaluation, I used engineering tools to isolate, document, and disseminate the cause of several issues to the development team for resolution. Upon completing the two Phases of test that we conducted at Navair, I prepared and presented operational, maintenance and lessons learned documents to the Air National Guard for the installation of the electronic propeller control system on their C-130 aircraft.Specialties: Processes and SkillsExtensive Experience with Prototype Design and Fabrication of Mechanical and Control Systems; Test Planning, Coordination, and Execution; Risk Assessment; Data Acquisition, Reduction, and Presentation; Electrical and Mechanical Troubleshooting with schematics and blueprints; and Technical Reporting and Presentation.

Mechanical EngineerNavair Oct 2010 - Apr 2023NAVAIR provides the US Navy with the resources required for research, developmental test, and engineering of airborne systems. Duties consisted of test coordination including estimate preparation (5%), test parameter definition and data acquisition selection (10%), safety and hazard assessment development (5%), test planning and conducting (20%), troubleshooting integration issues (15%), communicating concerns and providing recommendations (15%), data processing and analysis (15%), and reporting conclusions (15%). Projects include the evaluation of various mechanical and human systems elements for human factors, integration, and compatibility of installed systems. -
Project EngineerSonex Research Inc. Jul 2007 - Dec 2009Sonex is an engine research company that contracts to test, evaluate, tune, and develop engines ranging in size from 2 to 400 hp, typically for UAV applications. Duties include test development with the customer (10%), data acquisition (25%), electronics troubleshooting (10%), data refinement (15%), and test reporting (20%). Projects included the development of an electromechanical control for the purpose of providing autonomous warm-up, start, and control of a diesel 2-stroke engine. Developed the proof of concept using relays, timer controls, and Omega thermal controls. Built the demonstration model using a National Instruments Compact RIO with FPGA and LabView control software for added flexibility in the control design.
