Sonex is an engine research company that contracts to test, evaluate, tune, and develop engines ranging in size from 2 to 400 hp, typically for UAV applications. Duties include test development with the customer (10%), data acquisition (25%), electronics troubleshooting (10%), data refinement (15%), and test reporting (20%). Projects included the development of an electromechanical control for the purpose of providing autonomous warm-up, start, and control of a diesel 2-stroke engine. Developed the proof of concept using relays, timer controls, and Omega thermal controls. Built the demonstration model using a National Instruments Compact RIO with FPGA and LabView control software for added flexibility in the control design.

Projects included C-130 aerial refueling systems, Test Team Lead on a C-130 propulsion speed control system upgrade, and C-2 NP2000 Propulsion team member. The C-130 propulsion project involved aircraft integration, test, and evaluation of an upgraded propeller pitch control mechanism for the C-130 aircraft. The electro-mechanical control was designed to replace the original hydro-mechanical control and provide reduced MTBF and aircraft down time. Through the course of the developmental test and evaluation, I used engineering tools to isolate, document, and disseminate the cause of several issues to the development team for resolution.

Borg Warner is the industry leader in manufacturing for automotive timing components and front wheel drive chain components. Duties consisted of prototype assembly for customer demonstrations (10%), test equipment design (10%) and fabrication (15%), performing test (15%), monitoring data (15%), and documenting test (15%) results for presentation to peers (10%). Projects included benchmarking of valves from an automatic transmission valve body and development of a spool valve hysteresis test fixture.

United Technologies Pratt & Whitneys lean manufacturing environment produces turbine airfoils as part of one of the largest commercial and military turbine manufacturers in the world. Duties consisted of calibrating and editing CNC gage programs for automated quality inspection (20%), confirmation of non-conforming parts (15%), and production support (50%). Projects included the development and implementation of a new process into manufacturing, auditing and updating quality review sheets to the current blade drawings, and redesign of a coolant nozzle test stand.
