Ceredigion is not like other places in which options are available for work as an in house jeweller position. I travelled 40 minutes to hand my CV into Rhiannons which was the only in house jeweller for at least 40 miles. I started on repairs and stones setting and quickly started providing skills for commisions to be done in house with customers own gold and sometimes gems. This has developed to becoming workshop manager and ensuring that everything runs smoothly within it. This includes corresponding with other sides of the buisness as well as being very customer faced. I make orders for casting, send items to be assayed, clean check, advise an repair. I do nearly all of the commisions which are mostly with people's sentimental gold which I try to make entirely by hand but often use cast settings. I now train a part time apprentice who is learning Rhiannons process as well as anything else I can teach her.

Through my work at Rhiannons CYF I was given the opportunity to work with another small buisness ran by an amazing woman Annie Wealleans. I was involved in this since 2018 but did not start actually learning her trade until 2020, partly due to the pandemic.Annie started Black Dragon years ago and had know Rhiannon from being at trade fairs together. I was needed to go and work for Annie to help with centrefugal casting, cleaning beads to finishing them to putting them together as jewellery items.Annie worked mostly alone doing all the jobs includong design and posting but was aware of her need of new blood in the company to keep it going once she retires. Unfortunately Annie discovered she had terminal cancer during our time working together and very sadly passed in March 2021. There is a hope that Rhiannon can start up her company for her again as her wish was for the business to continue. I also promised her twice during her decline I would do whatever I can to keep her buisness alive.

Started off one day a week in the basement cleaning Silverware and silver jewellery. Once I expressed my desire to learn I was offered a new role as apprentice jobbing jeweller. After a few months and more days a week I was trusted with collecting jewellery jobs from the Sheffield branch and travelled by train to the Doncaster branch where I was the sole occupier of the workshop there.I focused on mostly repair work.

I was chosen from my metalwork and jewellery class at Hallam University by the owner of BSL to have a summer trial job at the factory. After this I was offered a years contract as an apprentice. I learnt the process and manufacture of Silverware goods from start to finish. From this job I was photographed whilst working on soldering and finishing silver knife handles (which is my profile picture) these have since gone on to be used on the front of the Mellenium Gallery entrance with 2 other metalsmiths as well as an image inside the gallery hung up (profile pic).
