I coordinate all aspects of several studies about preventing anal cancer, mainly in people living with HIV. I'm responsible for recruiting, screening, and enrolling participants. I obtain informed consent and assure that participants understand all details of study participation. My regulatory responsibilities include maintaining all the required study documentation and handling IRB submissions, renewals, and reporting. I created a participant tracking database in RedCap and regularly use OnCore and Apex (aka Epic). I assist with study visits in the clinic by taking participants' medical history as well as documenting all adverse events.

Oakland, Ca

I am interviewing women for a for a study on prenatal health factors and postpartum depression. I recruit women by phone and travel to women's homes throughout the Bay Area. I am very successfully recruiting participants with a low refusal rate among women contacted. I conduct in-person interviews with pregnant women about physical and mental health during pregnancy. I also administer informed consent, and assure questions are coded correctly. I am accustomed to managing time independently, balancing recruiting calls, travel time, and administrative duties. My success is due to being an empathetic communicator, ensuring participant’s comfort in sharing personal information.

San Francisco Bay Area

I am a field interviewer for a US Public Health Service study exploring alcohol use and mental health. I visit randomly selected addresses throughout the Bay Area, screen and recruit participants, obtain informed consent, and conduct interviews. The interview is anonymous and confidential, and I always treat participants' information with sensitivity and strictly protect their confidentiality. I follow up by phone with reluctant participants and attempt to convince them of their importance to the study.

Greater Seattle Area

I worked as a research assistant for a study evaluating the law that protects high school athletes following a concussion. I visited high schools throughout Washington state recruiting and enrolling athletes and their guardians. I obtained their consent and administered an initial questionnaire. I also maintained the database of study participants and was responsible for quality control, checking all consent forms and questionnaires for completeness.

Nationwide

The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) is a large scale public health study the Centers for Disease Control has been conducting around the United States for more than 50 years. The study visits 15 counties throughout the United States each year. As a Field Interviewer for NHANES I traveled full time for 11 months screening randomly selected addresses for eligibility and conducting interviews with selected participants about their health. I worked in a variety of locations, from the rural agricultural central valley of California to San Francisco to New York City. As the survey is only in each place a short time I had to work very efficiently and be as persuasive as possible to convince participants of the importance of their participation.

Seattle, Wa

I conducted door to door eligibility screening and conducted interviews in south Seattle as part of a research project assessing health and success of young people. Either the participant self-administered the survey on provided laptop or I conducted the interview with them. The area we were working in is one of the most diverse in the country racially and culturally. I was able to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. I entered and tracked all collected data in a database, always maintaining thorough and accurate data. I lead the field research team in productivity in both completed eligibility screening and completed interviews.

I provided project support for a small environmental consulting company. I helped screen and recruit participants for a long term environmental resource use survey conducted with residents of a northwest Native American tribal reservation. The study goal was to determine what kinds of local food sources tribal members were using, and thus what kind of environmental contaminants they may be exposed to. I assisted in managing the database of participants, and performed quality control and validation of completed interviews.I also assisted executives in managing their schedules, as well as scheduling meetings and following up with networking contacts. I researched new business opportunities and coordinated proposals for new contracts. I served as a liaison between executives and other members of the firm.

I designed and implemented all aspects of a research project on the effects of environmental restoration on local songbird populations. I performed auditory and visual surveys of birds on site and then used GIS technologies to map birds' locations against vegetation type. I provided the first species account of the USFWS site where my research was conducted. The findings of my research were used in negotiations with local tribes and other stakeholders to protect and restore the site I worked on.

I helped care for thousands or orphaned and injured wildlife patients and returned them to the wild. I provided information to members of the public with concerns about human-wildlife conflict. I found solutions to conflicts that helped protect species while also addressing the concerns of people.
