I am Abbey Scanlon, and I am a student-athlete on the Women’s Gymnastics team at UC Berkeley, majoring in Psychology. I am interested in being a Sports Content Producer because sports film and editing started as a hobby but became a passion when I was injured during my collegiate gymnastics career. As a student-athlete, it is easy to get consumed in your sport and make it your identity, but after filming and editing content for the gymnastics team, I fell in love with becoming a sports content producer. I enjoy coming up with possible content ideas for the creative services team within Cal Athletics and continuing to learn how to use different Adobe products such as Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop. I also enjoy playing around with the video equipment and learning more about using the camera to better my videos. Since my freshman year of college, I have worked closely with Cal Athletics’ Creative Services through an internship. As an intern, I have filmed and edited content for social media for sports such as football, volleyball, gymnastics, soccer, softball, baseball, and lacrosse. Outside of the work for my internship, I have taken photos and produced content for students who graduated. I am currently exploring career paths in content production for sports teams to understand the process better and what I need to do to pursue content production.
