About Anna Adlard

I’m a strategist and facilitator with expertise in human-centered design. I lead Workshop, a design-thinking practice that activates collaboration for climate action.Workshop creates the conditions for diverse collaborators to make rapid progress on climate goals and ignite transformation. We help coalitions, collaborators and communities translate climate ambitions into actionable strategies with focus and intention. Workshop's client portfolio includes Google, the Environmental Defense Fund, Apparel Impact Institute, Healthy Building Network, Textile Exchange, and Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute. ***My first job out of college was writing marketing plans for start-ups. I learned how to translate vision into concept and tactic. I came away with an affection for visionaries that stays with me still. Beginnings matter, and this one set me on a course of curiosity and possibility. I went to Washington D.C. early in my career. I started out at a government affairs firm, making copies and fetching coffee. I worked my way up to become a legislative liaison. I monitored regulatory hearings and helped prepare clients for testimony before Congress. In a city that prizes the “one-pager," I learned how to communicate essentially and persuasively. When I returned to home to North Carolina, I joined a leading B2B communications agency. I spent many years on the Account Services side, managing teams, programs and campaigns. I eventually won the opportunity to start a strategy practice. As Director of Insights, I led the way on research-based strategy, and I helped make human-centered insights a foundational part of the agency's process.I reached a point when I wanted to step back and hit reset. I moved to Cape Town, South Africa with my family. We stayed for three years, and the experience put me on a new course personally and professionally. We returned to Durham and co-founded Workshop to solve meaningful problems for people and planet. It's the best, and most important, job I've had yet.
