I had a solid two years with Duopharma in a steep learning curve of pharmaceuticals from small molecules in various dosage forms, to the highly potent active pharmaceutical ingredients and also biologics. The learning also involves various business trips attending meetings and conferences globally including USA, Egypt, Jordan, Phillipines, India, Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, Belgium, China, Germany, Holand, and Taiwan. It is very challenging and rewarding managing manufacturing, legal, human resources, R&D, corporate stategy and technical compliance. Achievements: Formulated and secured Board approval for a 10-Year Corporate Strategy, enhancing company direction and growth. Introduction of consequence management and improved safety practices, achieving zero recordable incidents in 2024 from 9 in 2022 and securing RM6 million p.a operational savings through various initiatives. Led ESG initiatives, resulting in a significant improvement in the FTSE4GOOD Index from 2.9 to 4.4 and successfully gotten approval for the NZTP 2030 and 2050 transition strategies. Strengthened R&D efforts, resulting in novel patent grants, a healthy product pipeline with 116 products in pipeline with 41 in house at various stages and 14 under prototype development. Obtained crucial approvals and certifications, including GMP, CCC for facilities, and Bumi certification for HAPI. Championed cost-saving initiatives, automation projects (250 manpower reduction), manufacturing process review, and optimizing HAPI manufacturing processes and K5 design. Led and received approval for solar panel projects and Energy Efficiency Plan.  Led digital taskforce initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and drive business growth through innovative solutions, and also approval for integrated HR management software (HRMS). Corporate Culture: Led corporate culture dissemination as Chief de Mission via corporate culture ambassadors and newly appointed associates.

With a fervent belief that every Malaysian deserves access to quality healthcare, I embarked on a mission fuelled by a fervent desire to bridge the gaping health divide plaguing our nation.From the onset, ProtectHealth embarked on bold initiatives to fulfil its mandate. Taking the reins of the electronic service provider for the Hospitalisation and Surgical Scheme for Foreign Workers (SPIKPA) and as strategic buyers, we diligently administered healthcare protection schemes (PeKaB40) for the marginalized B40 demographic, underscoring our commitment to inclusive healthcare access.However, our mettle truly shone amidst the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Entrusted with the mammoth responsibility of spearheading the private medical practitioners' vaccination program, ProtectHealth rose to the occasion with unwavering resolve. Against all odds, we orchestrated a monumental feat, vaccinating a staggering 60% of total vaccination – a feat that seemed insurmountable and impossible by many.The impact of our efforts reverberated across the nation as Malaysia achieved an extraordinary milestone, surpassing the initial vaccination target by a staggering five months. This entailed engaging with diverse stakeholders from key government ministries including Finance, Works, Health, and Energy, as well as agencies such as the Highway Authority and JKR. Additionally, active involvement in industry associations was pivotal in shaping our position as a leader in facilities management, setting strategic narratives and fostering collaboration within the industry.

Experienced in managing high performance team, driving excellence in execution and continuously achieving new initiatives I accepted a role to head the performance improvement team in Edgenta PROPEL. Human Resource did a Saville assessment and my result is Top 1% in driving success and high performance team, Top 10% in providing leadership and influencing people and Top 10% in analytical, problem solving and investigating issues. Also Top 1% for my numerical assessment. The down side of this J curve lasted for 3 months before the management decided I’m better off managing the entire operations of the highway maintenance with 3 regional managers and 16 section managers and more than 5000 subcontractors at site ensuring delivery of best customer experience of the North South Expressway. As the operations and management lead for PLUS network - operations, maintenance and projects, I was hold accountable to deliver over RM950 mil revenue and succeeded in the delivery. Organisational changes were made to ensure team able to achieve highest service level and ensuring our longest stretch of 24 by 7 toilets are well run, pavement is without potholes, grasses are trimmed and users get the best highway experience. Perhaps this is the most challenging time to come in with a recorded 13 fatalities among our subcontractors. Together with the safety head, we revamped the entire safety philosophy of the company and reduced the fatalities from 13 to 6 and finally zero at 3rd year. This took the effort of every individual in the company including the subcontractors.

I joined Eversendai in Aug 2015, a company specialising in steel construction with the Petronas twin towers and the Burj Khalifa among its list of accomplishments to head its Oil and Gas division, Vahana Offshore. Vahana Offshore at that time has embarked on building 2 units of Self-Propelled Jack-Ups/Liftboats at their strategically located, 200,000 square metre waterfront fabrication facility in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates.In September, I graduated valedictorian first class as doctor of business administration from the Open University Malaysia (OUM). I believe this is important considering I’ve proven myself technically in the field, execution wise, and would need the business acumen, the strategic mindset to continue spearheading my way in the corporate world. Not long after the Malaysian Government through the Ministry of Human Resource appointed me as an Oil and Gas Industry Expert. Six months in the job I got promoted to a top management role in charge of Business Development and Special Projects for Eversendai. I’m now overall in charge for business development - new initiatives and segments, tendering and contracts, special projects and heading the Oil & Gas division for Vahana Offshore. Now I am working beyond the Oil & Gas industry into the Civil Construction and also looking into Renewable Energy. The complexity in the role is managing three different industries with varying need and leading the leaders.Looking back, this set the stage where I’m tested to go beyond my comfort industry and continuously immersed in giant learning curves at every turn of my career. This is also the beginning of my extensive stakeholder management with various government ministries covering oil and gas, construction and also energy.

I will not be able to do justice in writing my experiences, the work complexities, and the character building harnessed within my ten years with Talisman. It is not the years but the opportunities I get to participate in all aspect of Oil and Gas. I never spent more than 2 years in a role and I get to complete the upstream oil and gas cycle, covering all its phases. Every new role is different and is a learning curve.Talisman made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. An overseas assignment – a whole new world of experience. I picked up Vietnamese, learnt real people management skills and did my best for two years in remote Vung Tau, Vietnam. The Vietnamese are different – they have strong character and don’t easily admit their weaknesses.After Vietnam, I was sent two years working offshore for Installation, Hook-Up & Commissioning in Malaysia-Vietnam borders. The years offshore were tough – I worked hard in the day and studied at night for my Master’s degree in project management. Back onshore, I was sent to Kemaman as Talisman’s sole company representative to oversee three fabrication yards, one in KSB, one in Teluk Kalong and the third, a yard belonging to EPIC. Here, I strengthened my management skills. I own the P&L and I have 600 indirect reports. I believe in teamwork and team building is crucial in ensuring success.I was called back to the KL office for project development coordination work. Now, it is interaction between the sub-surface, drilling, operations and intensive meets with the senior management and also the Calgary office. Spent four years in project development investment evaluation works (NPV, IRR, Payback, etc) while completing my doctorate part-time. Despite my punishing work schedule, I'm passionate to ensure that future generations inherit a better Malaysia and this I did through my book Rich Malaysia, Poor Malaysians published by Gerakbudaya in 2014.I spent 10 good years – mostly under the blazing sun, and then some, with Talisman.

Making a move to Petronas Carigali means I'm now on the client's side of the Oil & Gas EPCIC world. Previously I'm on the main contractor side managing the fabrication side of the Oil & Gas. It is an entirely different world where you get to participate through the whole Oil & Gas cycle from the conceptualisation of the project development, to front end engineering, procurement & fabrication, hook up and commissioning and finally successful first oil/gas and hand-over to the Operations team. As the project controller, I'm in charge of the P&L, specifically in the costing of the whole project development, detail planning, and the project team manpower management. This project is a joint venture between Petronas Carigali and Newfield Exploration for the development of the PM318 Abu Cluster offshore Terengganu. We have team from both sides; Malaysians and Americans. My experience in Sime Sembcorp made me the refer to person for anything fabrication/construction. Who would have thought my 2 years’ experience in the wilderness made me the Guru and the Expert. As a curious person I really enjoyed the increasing complexities and the steep learning curve in this new role. The experience is fulfilling as now I’m holding the remote control; whereas before I was in the battlefield and I can appreciate how every button that I press would have what impact on the battlefield. Being in Carigali also means you have to lead the leaders of your contractors; from the engineering houses to the main fabricators, the hook up commissioners and the installers.

Immediately after completing my final exam for my Bachelor's Degree at about 3.30pm I headed to Asia’s southernmost land tip in Teluk Ramunia. SSE at the time is Malaysia's leading fabricator with two fabrication yards; Pasir Gudang; and Teluk Ramunia. My late grandmother at the time was telling everyone her grandson is working in Rome and I had to correct everyone when I'm back in Kuala Lumpur for Hari Raya. Sime Sembcorp employed me as a management trainee where I would be rotated in every department. It is really the place to learn Oil & Gas. Fresh out of university, and a degree, I was tasked to supervise colleagues who had at least 15 more years of experience in the field. Being young has its advantages, risk taking, the energy and the full capacity to learn. I started in the planning department for the Yoho project for an installation in Nigeria (client is Exxonmobil) and we managed to box-up the main structure in record 88 days. Soon the Project Engineer left and I am in charge of the Amenam II project with more than 30 team members and 200 subcontractors. I spent two long years on an extremely steep learning curve in various disciplines from engineering, planning, safety, heavy lifting, construction and most importantly, project management. This is my first P&L experience and it is an eye opener. Every cost matters. The core to project management is planning. Failing to plan is planning to fail.On top of working in this remote location, there were monthly expeditions to Batam, Indonesia to expedite delivery of plates and tubular; and a trip to Germany, Amsterdam and France to expedite project materials. I was also fortunate to be entrusted by my colleagues as a tuition teacher to their little ones – teaching Maths, Science and English in the small village of Teluk Ramunia after office hours. Looking back, this is my first stakeholder management both internal and external including the village' chief. The two harsh years really shaped my character.

I did 6 months in this multinational company and many would have thought I am set for life in the IT world. As an intern, my first supervisor utilised me to make phone calls from a database that he has to promote a certain service. A painful job. I only lasted a week before I ask for a transfer to a technical department. Upon successful persuasion I found myself in the RS6000 team where all "geeks" seem to be located and I was very excited. In this department, there are two teams; one for software where there is a lot of coding and hardcore system knowledge is required and the other team being the hardware team where they do installation of this huge servers at client' location. Soon I was being send outside to follow the engineers and the technicians on various RS6000 missions. My skillset was being fully utilised and I also get to continue learning Linux, an open-source operating system on the side. My tendency for open source might be the first indicator of where my economic philosophy would swing to; a moderate left or center.True enough to Einstein' relativity theory, six months flew within a blink of an eye and I get to hold a class at the end of my internship for my team and share them on Linux. I felt proud and accomplished being able to contribute a new skillset to a very experienced technical team. My takeaway from the internship is that I discover that if I remain in this line, my life would be dedicating to servicing the industry and providing support. I also get to observe how a company structure a technical and a management career path to keep all the talents. You either get to be very good in management; or technical; and both options can be rewarded handsomely.
