Aaliyah Benjamin-Roach is a passionate and dedicated civil engineering student currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering at École Spéciale des Travaux Publics. With her recent graduation from Columbia University with her Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, where she also concentrated in French & Francophone Studies, she is committed to integrating sustainability and innovation into the built environment.Aaliyah's professional experience includes internships in her home country at prominent organizations such as the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad & Tobago (UDeCOTT) and United Independent Petroleum Marketing Limited (UNIPET), where she gained valuable hands-on experience in construction and civil engineering. Her technical proficiency spans AutoCAD, ArcGIS Pro, Python, and other essential tools, complemented by strong problem-solving and teamwork abilities.Throughout her studies, Aaliyah worked under Professor George Deodatis on Strategic Retreat and Sea Level Rise, contributing to research that addresses the challenges of climate change and its impact on infrastructure and communities at risk. She has also been recognized for her academic excellence and leadership, receiving multiple awards including the Civil Engineering Department’s Jewell M. Garrelts Award and the ASCE New Faces - Collegiate Edition.Beyond the classroom, Aaliyah actively engaged and held leadership positions in various professional and community organizations, including the Columbia Mentoring Initiative, Engineering Without Borders and Residence Hall Leadership Organization.
