As a member of the communications team, I take part in drafting press briefings, talking points and scripts for the leaders of Fair Fight Action.

During my time with Peace Corps Liberia, I received 11 months of in depth training in technical teaching skills, two literacy programs(Let’s Read & Read Liberia), gender equity, malaria prevention, local culture and language. I was sworn in as an Education volunteer focusing on primary English Literacy within the elementary school system of Liberia. I worked with two schools, implementing two different literacy programs by co-teaching with local teachers. Our program focused on training our counter parts to teach the programs independently so that we could begin training other schools in the programs. During training, we also conducted carnivals and camps geared towards educating youth in malaria prevention and gender equity. Both of these issues were emphasized as topics that we would address with teachers and students at our own schools. My cohort was evacuated 6 months into my service due to deteriorating economic conditions within the country.

I was as one of seven seasonal aides to the Secretary of the Senate's office for the 2019 legislative session. Our team was responsible for copying, filing and updating legislation to make available for lawmakers, lobbyists, press and private citizens. Additionally we assisted in facilitating legislative sessions with distribution of legislation and amendments on demand, as well as operation of sound systems. During this time, I expanded my knowledge of the legislative process, deepened my understanding of policy implementation and gained a new perspective on politics as it affect everyday people.

As a legislative intern during the 2017 Georgia legislative session, I gained a firsthand knowledge of the legislative process. I attended committee meetings to track legislation and create reports on the progress of bills throughout the session. I had the opportunity to work with various lobbying teams and understand the role that third party groups can have on the legislative and political process. This internship fundamentally changed my perspective on the importance that state and local politics hold in our lives.

As an intern with the Economic Empowerment team, I assisted with the process of creating financial security for resettled families in Atlanta. We conducted interviews with clients to determine their household needs, skills and prior experiences so that we could find the best job opportunities for each individual. I also assisted clients with building household budgets, create resumes and prep for interviews. I worked closely with people who spoke very little or no English, and occasionally acted as an interpreter for Urdu/Hindi speaking clients.
