As a nimble and responsive Reservoir Engineer, I find it important and love to dig and ask “does this make sense” which provides the insights into opportunity identification, asset development, and solving problems. I enhance asset value utilizing Improved/Enhanced Oil Recovery and optimization strategies by understanding the economic factors I can influence (production, ultimate recovery, operating, and capital expenditures). I promote understanding, and confidence by framing the risk and uncertainties for decision making. My broad experiences have provided a strong understanding of all functional team roles which enables constructive discussion, promotes mentoring relationships and this results in team development and better decisions. I am a “Reservoir Specialist” in applying Improved/Enhanced oil recovery techniques, and an “Asset Maximizer" focusing on efficient use of funds and recovery. With experiences gained in piloting new technologies, the value lies in improvements and mistakes. For example: should one implement a single or seven-well pilot? Additionally, not all infill opportunities are equal with reservoir and fluid variations. My passion as a “Principled Thinker” ties to improving decisions with these uncertainties based on the data available but also correlates with the scale of the investment. It is essential to ask whether this makes sense with theory, a given dataset, and how we optimize and maximize the performance. There is also the need to characterize, and mitigate risks and uncertainties. “Asset Maximizer” also applies to the performance of our knowledge assets. I’ve found it essential to harness the diversity within the team and ensure constructive discussions to ensure cross-functional learning and improved decision-making. When I’m not at work, I love spending time with my wife and daughters, their activities, and planning our next world experience. I also enjoy trying new things, like spinning 33 wands for a Harry Potter birthday party. With my girls’ influence, I’ve developed an appreciation for the arts, music, other cultures, and history. Visiting Tallinn, Estonia, and a safari in South Africa were two absolute gems. To recharge the mind and body after a long day sitting at the computer, I can be found on the ice (curling, skating, or skiing), on the court playing badminton, or on weekends escaping to the fresh mountain air in our backyard the Rockies. “Let’s connect and discuss optimizing assets and creating value.”

Senior Staff Reservoir EngineerEnerplus Mar 2012 - Dec 2022Calgary, Alberta, CanadaProvided reservoir technical support to Medicine Hat Glauconite C (MHGC) and Giltedge heavy oil assets. Conducted data analysis to optimize production, injection, and polymer. Performed reservoir analysis, development planning, drilling, enhanced oil recovery chemical screening, regulatory Enhanced Recovery scheme applications and annual reporting, reserves and stakeholder management. Supervised and conducted reservoir simulation activities in history matching and prediction phases. Provided mentorship to junior colleagues. • Identified conformance control features, developed a tracing technique for characterization. Improved to 67% remediated on last gel program. • Optimized the Giltedge pilot flood from vertical development to a four well horizontal development, which proved the polymer flood a technical success. Expanded the polymer flood to an additional four wells. • Initiated corporate research projects with Innotech Alberta. Identified polymer optimizations to reduce polymer consumption resulting in $3.5MM/yr in savings.• Initiated corporate research with University of Calgary Petroleum Microbiology Department, which resulted in progression to more than $2.5MM/yr in chemical opex savings.• Achieved successful SRED tax credits and refunds of more than $15MM over 7 years for the polymer pilot projects. • Identified the optimal placement of the horizontals and the successful 10 well 2020 drilling program.• Achieved a satisfactory simulation history match in Giltedge sector model. Identified the correct path for future simulation initiatives.• Investigated alternative technologies and business opportunities: brine desalinization, insitu heating, emulsion separation, CCS & CCUS, gas to diesel and lithium extraction.Formations: Basal Quarz, Lloydminster -
Staff Reservoir EngineerEnerplus Mar 2010 - Mar 2012Calgary, Alberta, CanadaProvided reservoir technical support to MHGC, and Giltedge asset teams (including polymer pilot).• Designed and implemented the 4-2 polymer pilot infill flood including regulatory approval. Production matched expectations.• Downspaced and infilled to 100m spacing successfully validating the polymer development.• Modified the Giltedge polymer pilot flood to add 3 more injectors based on six month pilot performance. -
Senior Reservoir Engineer & Staff Reservoir EngineerEnerplus Aug 2003 - Mar 2010Calgary, Alberta, CanadaProvided reservoir technical support to Eastern Business Unit asset teams including acquisitions and divestitures project support. Mentored junior colleagues.• As a supporting team member provided key insights that contributed to the successful joint acquisition of Chevron assets for ~$450MM. • Transformed an abandonment candidate to 290 bbl/d producer by recognizing alternative depletion mechanism. Reconfigured the well for a ~$8000 workover. This well has since produced >260Mbbls with total revenues >$20MM.• Followed up and drilled multiple successive waterflood development programs (~50 wells) with revenues exceeding $240MM.• Set up and lead cross functional asset reviews within EBU teams. This increased the technical and cross-functional understanding within asset teams and facilitated employee changes.Formations: Lodgepole, Bakken, Viking -
Reservoir EngineerChevron Canada Resources Aug 1998 - Aug 2003Calgary, Alberta, CanadaProvide Reservoir Engineering skills on Western Canadian and Frontier Business Unit asset teams in areas of waterflood management, reservoir simulation, reserves, partner, regulator and stakeholder management.• Built a sector simulation model. Confirmed the depletion mechanisms and validated the application of multilateral trajectories.• Identified and proved a successful infill drilling workflow in the waterflooded Virden Roselea and North Virden Scallion Units with the drilling of 38 wells. • Rejuvenated the Routledge Unit #1 asset from the near economic limit of 175 to 1000 bbls opd with drilling of nine wells.• Developed probabilistic reserve model and reserve booking methodology for managing Chevron’s Reserves in Hibernia. • Developed risk-based decision analysis and monte carlo simulations to model exploration strategy for justification of exploration work commitment bids offshore Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.• Recommended B-16-11 well be recompleted instead of the proposed redrill saving ~$40MM.Formations: Lodgepole, Nisku, Hibernia -
