Day to day duties include the daily care of mares and foals, handling of young stock and assisting both the farrier and vet as required. Foaling of 30+ broodmares each year during the breeding season.Preparation and handling of yearlings for yearling sales in both Ireland and the UK, including lunging of yearlings, mucking out, feeding, putting horses on and off the walker and turning them out in paddocks. Preparation of young stock and mares for both foal and breeding stock sales.

Gaelic Bloodstock afforded me the opportunity to work for them at the foal sales for the past two years. I was tasked with analysing the pedigrees of foals at the upcoming foal sales and determining whether they would be suitable for Gaelic, to go into training with Ger Lyons. Any foals that were suitable were put on a list for examination where each individual foal would be judged on confirmation, size, walk and overall appearance. Any foal deemed suitable that were successfully purchased, would return to our farm for the following year until they were ready to go and be broken.
