Sometimes you have to back yourself. At the beginning of 2022 I took a huge risk to leave teaching, taking the knowledge and skills I had gained during my ten years to start my own business.In August 2022 I set up Aaron Bourne Creative, offering editorial services on a freelance basis. I have since gained a number of clients (both well-established professional companies and private individual authors) and have worked tirelessly to deliver proofreading, copyediting, content uploading, and metadata assignation services. I have gained experience with a number of content management systems and have assimilated the fundamentals in order to become a trusted go-to for my clients.I am committed to my own CPD. I am an entry-level member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading, have completed courses, have undergone training in the well-respected Avallain Author software, and, crucially, have worked for many hours to gain experience to meet the various demands of my clients. This extends to learning about the publishing process in both print and digital platforms, applying and co-creating style guides, working from manuscripts, with XML, and the confidence to work both within and outside my specialist subject areas. Thanks to my degree subject and teaching experience I am adept at fact checking and independent research.I am dedicated to delivering editorial precision, fostering an environment of continuous learning and adapting to the dynamic needs of the literary world. My company strives to bring unique, inclusive, and diverse perspectives to the table, enriching the narratives we craft and the voices we amplify.I have a strong grounding in education, having begun my career as a secondary English Literature, Language and Media Studies teacher. During this time I was able to become well-acquainted with the needs of learners, the intricacies of the education sector, and the end-user experience of educational publications. Due to Covid-19 I also built a plethora of skills in using various media to deliver the same high-quality learning online, and this bolstered the technological skills I use day in, day out in my business.
