CurrentLife Begins At S40...Chesterfield, Derbyshire & The Peak District so often seems to be overlooked when it comes to Music, yet a small scratch below the surface reveals a vibrant, colourful and enticing history. In the 1960's - promoters like Top Rank and David McPhie regularly brought World Class Acts like Pink Floyd, Free, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, Little Richard, Jethro Tull, Bill Haley and The Comets, The Rolling Stones et al to the Town. Joe Cocker even recorded his demo at Palfreyman's Music Shop on Chatsworth Road - which got him the deal which shot him to stardom in 1967. The Thompson Twins formed in Chesterfield the next decade and came to prominence in the early 80's.Now, with Chesterfield and the surrounding area recently benefitting from massive investment into it's infrastructure - with developments such as The Northern Gateway, The Waterside and Canal Basement, as well as The Peak Resort springing up in 2020, the Historic Market Town is set to undergo an unprecedented transformation that sees it eagerly poised to be one of the UK's newest and most exciting destinations. The Peak District received 13.25 million visitors in 2017, and with Chesterfield widely being considered "The Gateway to The Peak", planners have decided to invest heavily in the Town's Hotel, Entertainment and Service Industries. When you consider that 80% of the Country is within 2 hours of Chesterfield, it's obvious that a boom to the Town's economy is just around the corner.I want to show fellow Cestrefeldians, folk of Derbyshire and The Peak, visitors and tourists alike - what went before - past and present - in order to pave a way for the area's musicians and artists of the future - providing a platform for them to showcase their exceptional talents - and try and entice touring bands and artists back to the Town again. We are standing on the edge of the biggest boom in the Town's History - let's celebrate and embrace what is to come - Life Begins at S40!
