During my time with Siemens I had the fortune of working on some great equipment with great people. I was employed as a causal mechanical fitter and worked on steam turbines during major power station outages, and multiple compressors. With the relationships made during this time, I was able to become a Siemens Vendor with Synergia1.

Working in the hydrate area the role entailed:- working within a small team to achieve daily planned maintence- identify and execute safety improvements- pump overhauls including mechanical seals- heat exchanger overhauls- statutory inspections of pressure vessels - fault finding and reporting - job completion reporting

Out side of the workshop environment I was part of teams on site for projects, maintenance and shutdown works.Roughly twelve months after completion of my trade, I was offered a position as leading hand for the fitting works. Here, daily tasks would be work organisation, parts ordering, people organisation, liaising with clients on site, job safety analysis writing and open communications with senior management. I also had a position on the safety committee. Although a small commitee, it gave the workers on the floor an opportunity to put forward any issues they felt needed to be addressed. Some example of general work performed here are:- turbine shaft machining - cane train differential overhauls- cement plant works- conveyor overhauls and maintenace- ball mill maintenace and improvement projects- heavy marine diesel maintenace and overhauls- CNC lathe operation and programming - coal crusher shaft manfacturing - jet slinger build through to commissioning - reduction gearbox overhauls- grab bucket overhauls- screw pump maintenace and overhauls- pipework - pressure testing Show less

Dismantle and re-assemble 4x 28/33D MAN engines for the purpose of con-rod crack testing.As part of the disassembly:- Each head was removed and stripped and the valve seats were re-machined.- each cylinder liner, piston and con-rod were removed as one unit- Then each unit was striped and the con rods were sent for crack testing.
