Director Of Tabletop Role Playing Games
I've run one (and for several years two) weekly D&D campaigns for many years and now a Star Wars RPG campaign. It's creative, fun and it exercises my brain in ways that technology challenges cannot.
Chief Software Architect / Research Fellow / Engineering Manager
Director of a new team working on an entirely new platform and product managing a fully-remote-pandemic-distanced development and operations team.
Research Fellow
Architect of many large projects and assisted with many hundreds more. Contributed via advice, design, guidance, technology consulting, code review, coding experiments, API design, and much more. A few examples: MyChart Web client technology stack rebuilt as ReactJS powered, yet needing to remain compatible with hundreds of features written in a variety of client technologies. I assisted in design, development, and review of the core functionality. Cognitive Computing Platform - I spent several years working with a team to build a new machine learning platform using Node.JS, Python, Go, and microservices to be hosted in Azure.I helped guide and build a revolutionary new way for Epic software developers to write database code. Instead of using M/MUMPS/Caché Object Script, we built a transpiler from TypeScript to the legacy languages. This included full support of features, with a natural TypeScript friendly API layer, and a Visual Studio debugger! I also contributed heavily to a moderization of Epic's Hyperspace Web platform client and server. This was using React/Preact and included building a compatible client layer to preserve the 100s of thousands of developer hours that built the existing Hyperspace Web application functionality. This dramatic improvement allowed Epic developers to use a well known and documented development system for building complex healthcare software functionality reliably and consistently with less effort than the older tools allowed. Epic developers 💘it.
Director/Principal Software Architect/Project Lead
I worked on a lot of different projects and this list is just the highlights. There were lots of great people that were involved along the way as well. Hyperspace Web Architect and development director - Epic's Hyperspace web application platform using ASP.NET and a revolutionary rich web client development platform (this was the time before React/Angular and other "big" frameworks). The top web platform design goals were: SECURE by default, make it easier to build a complex web app without needing to know everything about web development, and be SECURE (and did I mention secure?). Novel features included functionality such as: being able to hibernate/unhibernate a workflow/UX so that it could be continued later, a sophisticated change tracker for data, an exception handler that could capture the full state of the app (client included) for later review, fully encrypted and with the UI as it was, composable so that UI could be built from modules and "views." Welcome Kiosk Architect - Epic's Patient self-service kiosk using Windows Presentation Foundation. WPF was new at the time and we were pushing its boundaries and edges -- we worked closely with Microsoft so we could build the best UX.Interconnect Architect - Web service platform using Microsoft .NET. It became the primary backbone of modern communication options to Epic's database system. ChartSyncIntraConnect ArchitectEpic Communication Foundation - Communication layer for all Epic .NET applications.
Software Development Engineer Team Lead
This place was nearly ready to shut down when I joined (unfortunately). While there were a few nice people there, I have nothing else positive to say about it ... I learned that some people are better at a sales pitch than at follow-through and implementation.
