As Extraction Oil & Gas, Inc. continues to grow, complex technical accounting issues present themselves. Revenue recognition, lease accounting, commodity derivatives, equity method investments and capital transactions require a real-world understanding of the financial impact and the technical skills to analyze and document the conclusions. My team and I work on these issues everyday.

Extraction Oil & Gas, Inc. recently went public in October 2016. It's an exciting time to work at a growing company with complex corporate accounting and financial reporting issues, focused on the acquisition, development and production of oil, natural gas, and NGL reserves in the DJ Basin of Colorado. ∙ Managed 2 engagement teams of 5 subordinates concurrently for an accelerated public filer and a sophisticated private company, successfully meeting public and private filing deadlines∙ Supervised the process of 10-k reporting for 2 accelerated public filers, interfacing with the National Director of the SEC Practice to ensure complete and accurate reporting, disclosures, and management discussion and analysis for public companies∙ Directed the financial reporting for numerous private companies and employee benefit plans∙ Coordinated with third-party consultants to develop a private company’s internal controls to be Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliant in preparation of a public event∙ Passed a Public Company Accounting Oversight Board review of a public company audit∙ Scrutinized inputs and assumptions for cash flow projections and associated financial reporting liquidity disclosures for both public and private companies∙ Organized information for tax specialists for completion of the provision for income taxes∙ Advised valuation specialists on client inputs into impairment analysis of tangible and intangible assets ∙ Facilitated the completion of IS Assurance procedures on clients and mitigated identified information technology risks through assurance procedures∙ Performed technical analyses and accounting conclusions for complex accounting transactions, such as Series A Preferred Units classified as mezzanine equity∙ Experienced with foreign subsidiaries’ consolidation, cash flows, and reporting∙ Demonstrated knowledge of business combinations and valuations processes∙ Developed a firm-wide training program for software implementation used for audit documentation∙ Created an industry-specific training related to acquisitions, dispositions, and reserve report testing∙ Participated in the Audit Quality Network, designed to improve engagement effectiveness ∙ Performed career coaching for 4 subordinates, each with increasing levels of responsibilities
