I love using quantitative, analytical methods to extract useful information from complex systems. As a physicist by training with a passion for understanding the forces and mechanisms that drive biology, I have built a career at the intersection of biology and physics. I have experience in drug delivery, nanoparticle design, diagnostics, microscopy, image processing, and other areas of research and development at the single molecule to cellular scale. Additionally, I am an enthusiastic and effective communicator. I enjoy the challenge of explaining complex scientific ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences either in writing or in the form of a presentation. I am the successful author of two SBIR research proposals and I have presented data at large conferences, such as the Biophysical Society and the American Society for Cell Biology annual meetings. In smaller settings, I volunteer to present whenever I can, both in my academic career and in my current role in the biotechnology industry. At present, I am the Director of Technology Development at BioPact, a small biotechnology company in Austin, TX. We are realizing the potential role that carbon nanotubes could play in drug delivery, cancer treatment, and gene editing. In my current position, I manage multiple scientific projects both as an individual contributor in the lab and as a manager as we move technology through the ideation, feasibility, and development phases. I am the Principal Investigator on a Phase II SBIR research contract, and am responsible for writing monthly reports, coordinating research with our two collaborators, and achieving the necessary milestones in a timely manner. I work directly with the CEO to discuss results and plan strategy as well as spend a significant amount of time in the lab performing experiments that move our strategic goals forward. Long term, I am interested in developing the Austin biotechnology and life sciences ecosystem through my career and volunteering. I was born and raised in Texas, and believe that the whole state, and Austin in particular, has the potential to grow into a major life science hub.
