For over 30 years, Aaron has played a leadership role in developing public policy. As Owner of Pivot Strategic Consulting (www.pivotstrategic.com), he helps clients solve environmental problems through public policy. Recent clients include Energy Storage Canada, Canada Clean Fuels, First Nations Land Management Resource Centre, Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, Environmental Defense Fund, and EcoJustice.Aaron is Founder of GreenPAC (www.GreenPAC.ca), Canada’s organization to build environmental leadership in politics. Through GreenPAC, Aaron also established the Parliamentary Internship Program for the Environment, and the 100 Debates on the Environment initiative in the 2019 federal election.Aaron also recently founded Energy Neighbour (www.energyneighbour.ca), a social venture that works with homeowners at the neighbourhood level to make is easier for them to lower the electricity bills by installing energy efficient upgrades like heat pumps and rooftop solar.Between 2009 and 2012, Aaron served as Senior Advisor to the Premier of Ontario. He advised the Premier on Environment, Attorney General, Labour, Community Safety and Correctional Services, Natural Resources, Aboriginal Affairs, Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Municipal Affairs, and Northern Development, Mines and Forests.Aaron has been named by the Hill Times as one of the Top 100 Federal Lobbyists in Canada, and is a recipient of the Clean50 Award, honouring his contribution to sustainable development.From 2004-2009, Aaron taught public governance law at the University of Ottawa. He is co-author of the most comprehensive legal reference book on the law of Canadian democracy. The Ontario Bar Association lists The Laws of Government: The Legal Foundations of Canadian Democracy as one of “The Top 15 Books Every Lawyer Should Read.”His work in this area includes legal interventions on third-party spending limits at the Supreme Court of Canada, and acting as lead advocate on a federal bill to limit political donations and close fundraising disclosure loopholes. Aaron is a graduate of McGill University and the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law, where he was awarded the Gowling Lafleur Henderson Prize for International Trade Law.
