Our world has a nearly endless supply of challenges to solve and mysteries to uncover. And there's nothing like discovering that unexpected cause or solving that multifaceted problem. This is why I work with small and big data of all types to help employees work smarter, to develop physical models that explain natural phenomena, or even to forecast the costs of a business. Specific projects I have worked on include elevating employee performance through organizational network analysis and causal inference techniques, designing a chemical reactor to store thermal energy at high temperatures, modeling mechanical properties of polymers, and characterizing drug-polymer systems chemically on the nanoscale. With experience in both data analytics and experimentation, I have a firm grasp of the theoretical and physical sides of a problem and eagerly search to find the solution from both sides. So what's your challenge you are trying to solve? If you feel I can help, reach out to me. I'd love to chat.

Data ScientistMicrosoft Dec 2017 - Jun 2022Redmond, Washington, UsThe way that we interact with one another at work affects how innovative we can be as a company. So as a data scientist at Microsoft's Workplace Analytics, I help design tools for fortune 500 companies to extract insights from their own big data to help them improve collaboration behaviors that lead to more innovation. These tools are used on small groups and entire companies. As a result, I work with Spark, Python, R, and SQL on a daily basis. Currently, I am working on business process mapping using natural language processing techniques to help businesses determine which projects consume the most resources. I also use causal inference techniques in observational studies to determine which behaviors employees can adapt to enable their best performance at work. Additionally, I have created a forecasting model to predict the cost of goods for our group as we increase in size and customers. -
Postdoctoral ResearcherLos Alamos National Laboratory Jan 2016 - Nov 2017Los Alamos, Nm, UsUsing machine learning techniques and finite element analysis, I predicted stress-strain curves of polymeric materials. By implementing these techniques, I determined a substitute material for our system that was both cheaper and stronger than the current material. Additionally, I modeled the exsolution of carbon dioxide from decane in fractured networks. Experimentally, I designed a high-temperature, thermal energy storage reactor capable of inexpensively storing solar energy for 6 hours to improve the market feasibility of concentrated solar power. -
Phd ResearcherPurdue University Aug 2011 - Aug 2015West Lafayette, In, UsAs a graduate student, I primarily simulated capillary forces between particles and common surfaces using Wang-Landau Monte Carlo methods and mean-field density functional theory. I used these simulations and atomic force microscopy measurements to characterize the adhesive properties of energetic powders to improve detection of improvised explosives in airport security settings. I also had the amazing opportunity to use photothermal induced resonance (a novel technique that combines AFM and IR to obtain nanoscale chemical information) to establish resolution limits in drug-polymer systems.Probably some of my most memorable experiences as a graduate student came as a teaching assistant where I mentored approximately 40 students per semester through 4 basic experiments designed to help them develop data collection and interpretation skills. -
Research AssistantDippr 801 Project Nov 2007 - Aug 2011As an undergraduate research assistant, I analyzed and predicted thermodynamic properties of pure component chemicals for the advancement of environmentally friendly technologies. In addition, I helped to develop an analytical technique that determined the solubility of methyl esters, glycerin and water for improved biofuel separation.
