An experienced Editor In Chief/Editorial director of three national magazines (BlackBook, Out, and Document) with a long history in arts and culture journalism for The New York Times, The Guardian, and Wall Street Journal. As a reporter, covered pivotal events such as 9/11 (winning a British journalism award), the run-up to the Iraq war (from the United Nations), the death and funeral of Princess Diana, and the Bosnian war (from Sarajevo). During a long career in newspapers and magazines, have profiled hundreds of leading social and cultural figures, including President Obama, Beyonce, David Bowie, Misty Copeland, Steve Buscemi, Tilda Swinton, Maya Angelou, Annie Lennox, and Laura Dern, among others. Under the umbrella of my editorial agency, managed the relaunch of Ladies Home Journal, and the launch of Beekman 1801 magazine, while simultaneously overseeing both Out and The Advocate, and growing Out’s digital platform from a standing start to 9m monthly impressions. In 2015, founded One Grand Books - the world’s first book store where every title is a recommendation from a celebrated bibliophile from Richard Serra to Tom Hanks, and from Pete Buttigieg to Michaela Coel. Founded the Deep Water Literary Fest in 2018; the biannual lit and arts magazine, Grand Journal in 2020; and the literary podcast and public radio show Shelf Life in 2021. The author of the book Boy Soldiers (Mainstream), and editor of the essay collection, The Revolution will be Accessorized (Harper Collins).
