Aaron joined Volkert in 1994 after graduating from Purdue University and has grown into one of the Volkert’s leading structures/bridge engineers. Beginning his career as a hydraulic and scour engineer, he then moved into bridge design. In 2003 using his design and scour experience, Aaron began serving on the bridge inspection team for topside and underwater inspections, providing emergency inspections and analyses following bridge hits and the devastation to the bridges along I-10 in Florida, Mississippi, and Louisiana caused by Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina. His expertise includes the inspection and analysis of truss bridges; movable bridges (bascule, lift, and swing bridges); fatigue-prone details and fracture-critical members; post-tensioned segmental box girders; and complex tunnels and their systems. Aaron currently serves as Volkert’s Gulf Region Bridge Inspection Manager where he oversees and leads inspection services for many of Volkert’s large, long-term structures inspection contracts. As part of his project supervision, he ensures client satisfaction and quality assurance by taking an active role in the QC/QA process performing report reviews and field audits. Following the devastation left behind from Hurricane Sandy, Aaron led Volkert’s team to the Statue of Liberty as part of an emergency task order with Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division (EFLHD). Restoring the docks and service to Liberty Island became a priority of the National Park Service. On site, the team performed in-depth topside and underwater inspections of the two docks which service Liberty Island. Just six-weeks from the notice-to-proceed, Aaron and his team mobilized to New York City and completed the inspections, compiled the data into detailed reports, and delivered a preliminary design package that included repair/rehabilitation plans, load capacity analyses, cost estimates with pay items, and a critical path for construction activities for each dock which were reopened by the Fourth of July.In 2018, Aaron became one of the first Certified Tunnel Inspectors (CTI) in Florida. He is also serving his second term as an Industry Chairman on the Southeast Bridge Preservation Partnership Board of Directors, and serves on the National Bridge Preservation Partnership Technical Advisory Committee.
